The Sox have called up righty reliever, Chris Carpenter from the Pawtucket Red Sox. Carpenter was acquired by Boston from the as part of compensation for Theo Epstein.

In his recent work with Pawtucket, Carpenter has made a strong case for a trip to Boston. In 16 appearances (15.2 IP) with the Pawsox, Carpenter was 1-0 with 4 saves,  a 1.15 ERA, gave up 7 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 8 walks, and struck out 17.

Yeah, I think he is ready.

Bobby Valentine Dealt Tough Hand, As Red Sox Still Face Questions Beyond Manager's Control (Video)

Bobby Valentine has been the subject of much discussion during his first season at the helm of the Red Sox, and the talk shows no sign of winding down as the Red Sox season does. With Red Sox principal owner John Henry and general manager Ben Cherington in Seattle for the team's three-game series with the Mariners, while the Sox are in the midst of a six-game losing streak, many...

Dustin Pedroia Continues to Find Hitting Stroke as Red Sox Turn Attention to Mariners

Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. For all the trouble the Red Sox have had offensively in recent days, Dustin Pedroia is doing just fine. The Boston second baseman carries a 13-game hitting streak into Monday's game after a...

Ben Cherington Encourages Red Sox Nation to 'Hang in There,' Remains Confident in Team's Bright Future (Video)

Ben Cherington joined the Red Sox in Seattle on Monday, fueling speculation that he was preparing to fire manager Bobby Valentine. It turned out that wasn't the case, and that Cherington and Red Sox principal owner John Henry are just in town on a "fact-finding" mission. Cherington took time out of that mission to talk with NESN's Naoko Funayama about the team&...

Taking Stock: Sox - A's series

After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value. Lineup Dustin Pedroia: The only player worth watching in the series. Pedey didn't play as if the team has hit rock bottom. How sad is this, Pedroia had more hits than Red Sox runs in the series (6-5). Everyone else: Big red arrows from this point forward...

Daisuke Matsuzaka 'Disappointed' He Couldn't Give Red Sox More Innings Sunday (Video)

Admit it, after Monday's successful seven-inning start against the Kansas City Royals, even in such a bleek season you got your hopes up for Daisuke Matsuzaka just a little bit. Well, instead of building on his last time out, Dice-K seemed to regress on Sunday against the Oakland A's, yielding six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings to a red-hot Athletics ballclub. Maybe...

Jason Repko goes over fence for amazing grand slam-robbing catch (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Jason Repko made one of the best catches we’ve seen this season. The Pawtucket Red Sox (Red Sox Triple-A) left fielder went over a fence on Sunday to rob Yankees first baseman Kosuke Fukudome of what would have been a grand slam. Fukudome was able to hit a home run later in the game, and his team won 6-2, so the robbed grand slam didn’t...

Shoulder Care Remains Important for Red Sox Pitchers, Hitters Alike During Long Baseball Season

Pitchers have to take care of their shoulders. The comfort -- or discomfort -- in the area could make the difference between a fantastic outing on the mound or a mediocre appearance. Back in June, Franklin Morales credited his early success in his transition from reliever to starter to his shoulder's health. "I work for that and I work hard everyday to do my thing and every...

Valentine keeps his job after meeting with Henry

In an awkward, sometimes testy, pregame session with reporters Monday, embattled Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine discussed his breakfast meeting with principal owner John Henry. "What do you think, we talked about art? Liverpool?" Valentine said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "We talked about baseball and our team, obviously. Things that he's concerned...

Red Sox Reduced to Spoiler Role

So this is what it feels like to be an Orioles fan. Ever since last year’s demonstrative celebration after a meaningless walk-off win over the Red Sox in game 162 of the 2011 season to finish with a record of 69-93, I was wondering what the big deal was.  I never really understood it, but [...]

Red Sox-Mariners Preview

Much like the September sun, Boston's season is setting early in the west. The Red Sox seek to avoid a seventh consecutive loss on a miserable road trip Labor Day afternoon when they visit a last-place Seattle Mariners club currently thriving by comparison. A year after the 7-20 September collapse that left them one game out of a playoff spot, the Red Sox (62-73) appear to...
