Coco Crisp, with 10 home runs this year and 85 in his 11-year career, took Felix Doubront deep to lead off the bottom of the first.A's starter A.J. Griffin (pictured) had much better luck:Griffin (4-0) struck out five without a walk. He has faced the Sox twice this season and given up three runs over 13 innings. The Sox went in order in all but three innings. All four of their hits were singles, one on a bunt. It was the fifth straight loss for the Sox on this road trip. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games.Oakland, playing in a stadium with a notable number of empty seats, leads the Wild Card race.Still no word on Jon Lester as we approach the 48-hour deadline for a deal. Presumably the Sox pulled him back, but there's been no mention of it.

Josh Reddick 'Not at All' Surprised by Oakland's Season, Credits Chemistry for Team's Success (Video)

The Oakland Athletics might have surprised some outside observers with their emergence as a wild card contender this season, but they haven't surprised Josh Reddick. The 25-year-old outfielder has been a pleasant surprise himself in 2012, emerging as a legitimate power threat for the A's after an offseason trade that sent Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney to Boston. NESN'...

A's activate RHP Grifiin, 3B Inge

The Oakland A's activated right-handed pitcher A.J. Griffin and third baseman Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Collin Cowgill and infielder Brandon Hicks from Class AAA Sacramento, the club announced Saturday. Griffin went 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in eight starts before he was placed on the DL Aug. 5 with right shoulder tightness. Inge was batting...

Prime Nine: Oakland Athletics

No profile of a team can capture the entire essence of that team and this is doubly true with the Oakland Athletics. A quick look at the prime nine would lead you to believe that their farm system is lacking. It might be in a certain sense, but the parent club has added three or four prime arms and several position players from the prospect ranks. That has a way of reshuffling...

Athletics top BoSox for 9th win in row

As best as he can, Bob Melvin keeps his mind from wandering to what the upstart Oakland Athletics might accomplish by season's end if they keep going like this. Josh Reddick insists it goes for him, too. That's OK, everybody else is doing plenty of scoreboard watching for the A's as this overachieving club tries to get back to the postseason for the first time in six...

Athletics 7, Red Sox 1

OAKLAND, Calif. -- It doesn't matter who the opponent is. The Oakland Athletics are rolling like a runaway freight train and the win streak continues. The A's scored four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Brandon Inge, as Oakland recorded its eighth straight win by beating the Boston Red Sox 7-1 on Saturday night. Coco Crisp was a triple shy...

Athletics 6, Red Sox 2

Seth Smith hit a two-run homer, Stephen Drew hit a solo shot for his first clout since joining Oakland and the Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 on Sunday for their season-best ninth straight win. Brett Anderson (3-0) won his third straight start since returning from a 14-month absence to recover from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery, a big boost for the AL wild...

A's 6, Red Sox 2

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Seth Smith hit a two-run homer and Stephen Drew homered for the first time in an A's uniform and had two RBIs as the Oakland Athletics completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox with a 6-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. Brett Anderson pitched six innings, allowed five hits and a run, walked one and struck out four to earn the victory. Anderson (3-0)...

Angels-Athletics Preview

Pitching has been key to the Oakland Athletics' success over Los Angeles, but the Angels have plenty of reason to be concerned about Oakland hitters as well this week. The Athletics will go for their 10th straight win Monday when they open a three-game home series against the Angels. While Los Angeles (71-63) has won nine of 12, it sits 5 1/2 games behind Oakland (76-57) for...

The Red Sox Continue Their Losing Ways

The Red Sox looked to Felix Doubront to stop the current skid they are on, but unfortunately the Athletics would continue to get to Sox pitching and take the second game of the series.  Then the game went from focusing on another loss to focusing on the drama that was going on in the dugout.   Felix Doubront put the Sox in a hole with the 4th pitch he threw.  Coco Crisp hit...

Red Sox Live Blog: Felix Doubront on Hill as Red Sox Aim to Stop Slide in Oakland

8:20 p.m.: Things are getting a bit wacky in the Red Sox Lineup, as Scott Podsednik hits third while Jacoby Ellsbury is in the leadoff role. That might seem a little backward. Both players have been leadoff hitters throughout their careers, but Ellsbury seems distinctly more inclined towards to a middle-of-the-order role, hitting 32 home runs last year. Podsednik, meanwhile, has...
