Found July 01, 2012 on Fenway West:
The Red Sox have been to extra innings five times previously in the season and lost all five of those games.  That's not a good stat.  Tonight, the Sox would once again head to free baseball, however this time the Mariners would not walk off on them and they would walk away with a split to the 4 game series.  Felix Doubront took the mound for the Sox and while he didn't have his best stuff, he left the mound only giving up one run.  Dubi threw way too many pitches and just wasn't efficient.  He gave up his one and only run in the 3rd inning when he had runners on the corners and no outs.  Ichiro hit a sac fly to left field and Figgins tagged up and scored for the Mariners.  Doubront left the game in the 5th inning having thrown 103 pitches.  His line for the night was 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 4 Ks.  Doubront left the game with the bases loaded and one out.  Matt Albers was into the game and with one pitch he was able to get Montero to ground into a double play to end the...

Felix Doubront Battles Mechanics, Control and Foul Balls in Red Sox Win (Video)

It certainly wouldn't be going out on a limb to say that Felix Doubront did not have his best stuff on Sunday afternoon. With five walks in just 4 1/3 innings, Doubront's pitch count escalated very quicky, adding to his difficulties. That being said, even without his best stuff (and with the help of a double play induced by Matt Albers) Doubront managed to hold the Mariners...

Interview with Zach Gentile

Zach Gentile was the Red Sox 49th pick in the 2008 MLB draft. He started out the season in Lowell in 2008, and struggled mightily. He hit .222/.271/.259 in 40 games for the Spinners. He had no home runs, 3 doubles, and a triple. He improved in 2009, hitting .281/.363/.340 in 88 games for the Greenville Drive. He hit a home run, 11 doubles and 2 triples. He took a step back in 2010...

Boston's Ortiz will go solo to All-Star Game

For the first time since 2001, the Boston Red Sox had only one player voted into the All-Star Game. As expected, David Ortiz was voted via fan balloting as the American League's starting designated hitter. It marks the eighth time he has been picked to play in the midseason showcase. But he won't have company July 10 in Kansas City unless one of his teammates is chosen...

Jarrod Saltalamacchia Settling in to Cleanup Spot as Red Sox Settle in to Consistent Lineup

One of the goals of trading Kevin Youkilis, said Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington, was to make it easier for manager Bobby Valentine to fill out his lineup card on a day-to-day basis. Well, mission accomplished. The Red Sox will employ the same lineup for the third consecutive day, featuring Daniel Nava in the leadoff role and Jarrod Saltalamacchia occupying the cleanup...

Red Sox News & Notes - 6/30

Given how Aaron Cook and Hector Noesi were dealing through the first four innings, we were shaping up for a repeat of the Seattle Mariners 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. But on Friday night, the results were just a little different. The Red Sox finally broke through with three home runs off of Noesi in the 5th while Cook continued pounded his sinker into the...

Red Sox News & Notes - 7/2

Something tells me that the Boston Red Sox are probably just a little bit happy that they were able to escape the Emerald City with a split of the four-game set with the Seattle Mariners. If they hadn't, it probably wouldn't have been good for their psyches. The 2-1 win in 10 innings almost didn't happen either. The offense was being shut down by Jason Vargas through...

Cody Ross Proves to Be a Quick Healer in Return From Foot Injury (Video)

Cody Ross spent a couple of the best years of his career in the Bay Area, coming over to the San Francisco Giants in a midseason 2010 trade. Of course, Ross played a huge role to helping to Giants to their first World Series title since they switched coasts, and he clearly has some pleasant memories of his time in the shadow of the Bay Bridge. Playing Monday night on the opposite...

Red Sox And Blue: A's Tackle Boston

Evening Red Sox Delight - 6/30

After winning 5-0 last night, the Boston Red Sox look to secure a least a split of the series tonight in the third game of a four-game set with the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in Seattle, WA. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Mariners television market, you can catch the game on ROOT...

Nick Punto Starting in Place of Injured Will Middlebrooks Against Jarrod Parker, Athletics

Will Middlebrooks was pulled from the Red Sox extra-inning win in Seattle on Sunday night with a hamstring injury, and it appears that the Sox staff are being extra careful with their young superstar. In Middlebrooks' place, Nick Punto will be getting the start at third base in Boston first of a three-game set against the Athletics out in Oakland. David Ortiz, who was named to...

Why Do the Red Sox Hate Walking?

AP PhotoUnsurprisingly, over the past several years Boston has been at the top of baseball in runs scored, hits, homeruns, and walk rate; the 2012 Red Sox are in a similar territory, but with one exception. Boston is  currently 2nd in runs, 4th in hits, 5th in homeruns, but only 23rdin walk rate (they are still 8th in on base percentage, but only because they have the 2nd highest...

League's struggles continue in loss to Red Sox

The Seattle bullpen did a fine job in the just-completed four-game set against the Boston Red Sox. So much so that Red Sox All-Star DH David Ortiz praised the group saying "I didn't see a pitch over the plate to hit all series." There was one pitcher who didn't fall into that mold, however. Former closer Brandon League's struggles continued. On Saturday...
