I heard this a couple of hours ago and I have been debating whether or not to talk about it. The reason is, I really don't care. If you haven't heard, The Red Sox have made Jonathan Papelbon's list of teams on his no-trade list included in his contract with the Phillies. According to a major league source, Jonathan Papelbon has the Red Sox as one of the eight teams on his no-trade list. The fact Papelbon has included the Red Sox on his eight-team list shouldn’t come as a surprise considering most players pick big market clubs when identifying which teams they would need to give permission to be traded to. The reasoning often times is due to the notion that if they were dealt to one of those teams, the player could use the potential deal as leverage to enhance their current deal. While Papelbon wouldn’t comment on his no-trade clause, the Philadelphia closer wouldn’t rule out one day pitching in Boston again. (Although it should be noted, he remains currently perfectly content with the Phillies.) “Yeah, I could see myself in Boston,” he told WEEI.com. “I could see myself pitching in New York. You know me. I’ve always been the kind of guy who … I don’t really just settle, or accept things. Whatever happens in my future is going to happen. I’m not blind to that fact.” I am not upset with Pap going to Philly, because he got his pay day. The one that Daniel Bard though he would get after Papelbon left. That clearly will not work out. When you have a chance to make it, take the deal. He said he could see himself pitching in Boston again, not because of his emotional attachment, because it is among the few teams that could pay him the big bucks. I am sure there is some emotional attachment with Boston, but not much. Hell, he said he could see himself pitching in New York, because they can pay him. I don't care that the Red Sox are on the list. It would be nice to have a solid closer, but don't count on Pap returning to Boston any time soon...or ever.
