Theo Epstein and co. were very busy today as the Red Sox were able to pull off two trades. Earlier this afternoon they acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates will receive minor leaguers RHP Hunter Strickland and SS Argenis Diza. LaRoche is hitting .247/.329/.441 with 12 HR and 40 RBI in 87 games this year for the Pirates. He's a lifetime .269/.338/.486 hitter.Later in the day they traded little used SS Julio Lugo to the Cardinals for outfielder Chris Duncan. Shelley's brother is hitting .227/.329/.358 with 5 HR and 32 RBI in 87 games f0r the Cards this season.The two moves combined add some much-needed depth to the Sox bench and will probably help them a bit offensively, but these moves hardly worry me.
