The Red Sox hoped to be able to make a move up the standing with the Twins coming to town for 4 days, however when they are unable to score a single run it does not usually work out all that well.

Jon Lester took the mound for the Sox and we all collectively crossed our fingers that he would show signs of being that ace pitcher we need him to be.  Lester pitched well, however not well enough to win.  Lester had a quality start, but with no run support the 3 runs he gave up would equal his 9th loss of the season.  Lester gave up two runs in the 3rd inning with an RBI double to Span and and single to Revere.  In the 6th, Lester gave up his 3rd and final run of the night with an RBI double to Doumit.  Sox 0-3.  Lester's line for the night was 108 pitches, 8 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 BB and 7 Ks.  I can't complain about that and hope we continue to see that Lester on the mound.  Aceves came out to get some work in the 9th.  While Aces was getting his pitches in he also gave up a 2 run HR to Dozier to give the Twins a 5-0 lead.  I think Aceves is truly becoming a closer since he seems to struggle in non save situations.

As for the Sox offense, I don't have much to say.  The Red Sox were not only shutout, but they were only able to get 2 hits the whole night.  If it wasn't for Gonzalez they would have been no hit by the Twins since he got both of those hits last night.  Twins pitching did walk 4 batters, however the Sox were never able to capitalize.

The Sox have once again fallen to 500.  Let's hope that during this series with the Twins that we don't fall below 500.

Red Sox 0 Twins 5 BOXSCORE
