A fielding error by Toronto first baseman Josh Thole off the bat of Shane Victorino in the bottom of the ninth inning helped the Red Sox to a 5-4 win and a series win over Toronto at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon. The win was the 50th of the season for the Red Sox, the first American League team to reach the half-century mark in 2013.
The Red Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on RBI doubles by Ryan Lavarnway and Brandon Snyder off Toronto starter Mark Buehrle. The Jays chipped away with two in the fourth and another in the seventh on a solo home run by Jose Reyes. The Red Sox added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Wall Ball double by Jonny Gomes that scored Jacoby Ellsbury.
