As time passes, the less likely it is that the Sox will not walk away from this deal. In fact, Tom Werner wants this thing done very soon. To fill roster spots that will be available as a result of the trade, the Sox will call up Jose Iglesias, and outfielder, Che-Hsuan Lin.

In anticipation of their megadeal with the Dodgers being finalized today, the Red Sox have summoned shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin from Pawtucket to take two of the three roster spots that will be opened when Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto are officially traded to Los Angeles. (Carl Crawford, who is also going west in the trade, is on the disabled list.)

"Hopefully this deal will go through [Saturday]. If it falls into place, the deal sheds us from tens of millions of dollars of long-term commitments. It gets us great prospects who will improve our major league roster as soon as next year. It brings us a player in James Loney who was 'untouchable' a couple of years ago. It allows us to start over with free agents. We want to win for our fans and we now have huge financial flexibility to improve the team."

This is still very surreal to me. Trading away a couple of first base prospects doesn't seem to bright now. Anyway, to the delight of many Ted's Army writers, we will see Jose Iglesias much sooner than expected. The third spot will be filled by Dodgers first baseman, James Loney.

As Aaron said earlier, get ready for a very interesting 6 months.
