SPRINGDALE, AR – The Kansas City Royals are just two games into the spring season, but already have shown a winning attitude.  They dominated the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers in a 6-1 win to open the year, and used a late rally to win 7-6 in their second game. Many former Naturals have been a part of the team’s early spring success.  Johnny Giavotella scored two runs in the first game, while Mike Moustakas had a pair of hits and an RBI in game one.  Giavotella continues to have the upper hand in the battle with Chris Getz to be the Royals starting second baseman, but Getz has shown a better ability to drive the ball so far this spring. Kevin Kouzmanoff, a non-roster invitee to spring training, capped the 6-5 win in game two with a two-run double in the ninth inning to drive home former Naturals Moustakas and Wil Myers.  Myers has picked up where he left off last fall in the Arizona Fall League this spring.  He has gone 2-for-4 so far this spring and scored twice...

Beleaguered Royals are flush with young talent

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Cole Hamels? Cole Hamels?!?! It was barely 8 a.m. inside the Kansas City Royals clubhouse, but designated hitter Billy Butler was on a roll. Indeed, if the needling of a top prospect by a homegrown veteran is a sign of a team on the rise, then the Royals are well on their way. Seems left-hander Mike Montgomery, one of the Royals prized young pitchers, once had...

Can Perez end up the best Royals catcher ever?

Even though catcher Salvador Perez played in just 39 games for the Royals last season, baseball people and baseball fans quickly began to run out of ways to adequately describe the 21-year-old's talent. Perez was called a "natural," or a "freak of nature," and quite simply the "best catching prospect the Royals have ever had." Perez's unique...

The Kansas City Royals All-Time “WTF” Opening Day Lineup

As we are one month from Opening Day, with so much optimism surrounding the 2012 version of the Kansas City Royals, and all of the young stars that project to be in this years Opening Day lineup, we must remember some of the players that graced the Opening Day lineup card in years past that made us ask, “WTF?!?!?” Ahhhhhhhh….Opening Day…when hope springs eternal. The only...

Royals have stockpile of young talent

Making their impressions early in Spring Training

This early in spring training, it’s sort of unusual for the Kansas City Royals to have so many lineup and pitching positions already set with potentially good players. In springs past, the Royals usually had several players fighting for roster spots and many times the players who made the roster were marginal at best. Even though spring training games just started, a few of the...

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Shelley Duncan hit a three-run homer to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over a Kansas City Royals split squad on Tuesday. Duncan connected in the third inning off Royals reliever Zach Miner, working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2010. Starting pitchers Will Smith for Kansas City and Kevin Slowey of Cleveland each worked two scoreless innings...

Royals 5, Rockies 0

Royals rotation candidates Felipe Paulino and Aaron Crow each pitched two scoreless innings and Kansas City beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 Thursday. Rockies starter Drew Pomeranz pitched three scoreless innings despite getting an abrasion on the top of his thumb. Trainers visited the mound to check on Pomeranz with two outs in the second inning after he picked off Lorenzo Cain. But...

Backup plan?

If the Royals were a football team, they would be in a pretty good spot right now. They have a solid “two-deep” that features depth and competition at nearly every position. Photo Courtesy of Minda Haas Too bad the Royals don’t play football. Considering they are gearing up for baseball season, the Royals have a mess on their hands when it comes to infield depth. They made...

Kansas City Royals: My “Team To Watch” In The American League

This NBA season, I decided to pick a team in each conference to pay closer attention to than I would any other season.  A lot of this had to with the fact that my favorite team, the Orlando Magic, were basically going to be held hostage by the Dwight Howard situation and would struggle (again) to compete in the improving
