The St. Louis Cardinals made a couple of roster moves on Saturday involving key minor league players including a major league roster move. Stephen Piscotty promoted to Springfield I have been calling for Piscotty (pictured) to get a bump for a while now. A first round pick in 2012, Piscotty has had an up and down 2013 with Palm Beach. He started hot, had a cool period, and is rolling again. The scouting report on Piscotty says that his bat is advanced and his power has improved this season. Piscotty joins fellow 2012 first rounder, James Ramsey, in Springfield. Lee Stoppelman and Tim Cooney are other 2012 draftees who have made it to the Double-A level. Tommy Pham promoted to Memphis Pham would probably be at Memphis already of he would have stayed healthy this season. Pham has had 2 stints on the DL this year and has still managed to hit .301 with 6 home runs and 28 runs batted in. Pham has played at the Double-A level for the past 3 1/2 years and has finally made the bump to Triple-A. I would not be surprised if we see Pham in St. Louis before the season ends. Anthony Garcia activated from the DL Garcia, who started the season in our top 10 prospect list, was on fire before he hit the DL. In his last 7 games, Garcia was hitting .393 with 5 home runs and 10 runs batted in. On the season, he is hitting .211 wih 9 HR and 31 RBI. It will be interesting to see how he returns from the injury. I would be surprised if Garcia gets a promotion this year, as I don’t believe he is ready for the next level. Garcia is only 21 years old. Michael Blazek recalled from Memphis, Tyler Lyons optioned to Memphis A roster move was imminent after Lyons’ fourth straight poor start for the big Cardinals. Lyons will return to Memphis to gain confidence and will join Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez in the Redbirds’ 6-man rotation. It is unclear who’s starting spot Lyons will take. A good guess is Maikel Cleto for obvious reasons. Blazek is making his second trip to St. Louis and will hopefully get an appearance this time. Some had called for Salas to take Lyons’ spot. The Cardinals have said they would like to stretch out Salas to a couple of innings. I will keep this thread open in case there are more moves made. Have a great Saturday!
