What’s up the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals this season? More specifically, what’s up with Matt Holliday this season? It’s been a very strange season for this club and perhaps even stranger for their All Star Leftfielder. Actually, I’ll get into the club’s season here in just a few weeks with my end of the season report. But for now, I want to focus on Holliday. Things actually got off to good start for the 31 year old when he went 3 for 4, homered and drove in two runs on opening day (March 31). However, the next day, Holliday was brought to the emergency room and had to have his appendix removed. Doctors said he would miss “4 to 6 weeks”, but lo and behold he was back in the lineup just 10 days later in San Francisco against the Giants where he went 1 for 3 and drove in a run. Fast forward to May 18 when Holliday left the game against the Marlins with a “strained quad”, he came back and played just two days later only to leave again on May 22′s game with the same problem.
