Just days after Baseball America rated him the top prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Oscar Taveras took home some more accolades that further advance his status as one of the hottest and most anticipated prospects in all of Major League Baseball. Taveras was named the Dominican Winter League Rookie of the Year on Tuesday after hitting .316 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 39 games. Taveras, who is just 20 years of age, has quickly accelerated himself through the ranks of the Cardinals' minor league system. He has hit everywhere he has gone and h as worked hard to improve his defense in an effort to play center field at the Major League level. Despite his top prospect status and success, Cardinals' general manager John Mozeliak is not quite ready to commit to having Taveras on the opening day roster. But, Mozeliak definitely sounds excited about the youngster's future in a Cardinals' uniform. “The day he gets here is the day he stays," Moze...

Projected top five St. Louis Cardinals stories of 2013

First, we looked at the top 20 stories affecting the St. Louis Cardinals this past year. Not surprisingly, the list was headlined by the post-season run by the club, along with the recognition of fine individual seasons put together by Yadier Molina and Kyle Lohse. Now it is time for my annual predictions for the top story lines of this New Year, as well. As is customary, I will...

10 Cardinals games to reach bigger audience

FOX Network and ESPN schedules for 2013 involving the St. Louis Cardinals have been announced. The St. Louis Cardinals will appear on national or regional television at least 10 times in 2013 on either FOX Network or ESPN. Eight of the 10 announced games are road contests, including the final two of the four games at Chicago’ Wrigley Field leading up to the All-Star Break. ESPN...

Cardinals, arbitration-eligible five prepare to exchange salary amounts

This week’s calendar lists two milestones in the arbitration process to set 2013 salaries for those players with just under three years of major league service to six years. On Tuesday night, the Players Association will announce which players have filed for arbitration. Given that list will surely include every eligible player not yet under contract for next season, this announcement...

The Cardinals Like ‘Em Old

Allen Craig is a bit of a beast. Reading through last year’s list of accomplishments can be dizzying. Craig is also turning 29, and he only has one full season under his belt. The reasons it took him so long to get here are specific: He got injured some, a legendary player blocked him at first base and his glove didn’t allow him to play where his team needed him. But there...

Jaime Garcia won’t pitch in WBC, and that’s good for St. Louis Cardinals

Whenever the World Baseball Classic rolls around, questions abound about who will participate in the tournament and whether or not that compromises their preparation, and later success, in the regular Major League Baseball season. The St. Louis Cardinals will have those questions about their four players who were selected to World Baseball Classic rosters, which were announced Thursday...

MLB free agents 2013: Could Kyle Lohse follow Kyle McClellan to Texas?

Former St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Lohse is still looking for a new home.  It has been a long winter for the free agent, who was planning on cashing in big after a second consecutive spectacular season. Unfortunately, Lohse has been unable to land anywhere, which is strange considering his former teammate Kyle McClellan, who is coming off of shoulder surgery, found...

Ozzie Smith Gold Glove Bobblehead Night?

Sheesh. I mean, I don't want to drudge up painful memories, but we know that Ozzie Smith sold all his Gold Gloves this off-season, right?  These pieces of history are not important to him. But that's not stopping the Cardinals from creating a bobblehead night to celebrate the auction... Wait, what? It's not to celebrate the auction? This isn't ironic...
