Just days after Baseball America rated him the top prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Oscar Taveras took home some more accolades that further advance his status as one of the hottest and most anticipated prospects in all of Major League Baseball.
Taveras was named the Dominican Winter League Rookie of the Year on Tuesday after hitting .316 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 39 games.
Taveras, who is just 20 years of age, has quickly accelerated himself through the ranks of the Cardinals' minor league system. He has hit everywhere he has gone and h as worked hard to improve his defense in an effort to play center field at the Major League level.
Despite his top prospect status and success, Cardinals' general manager John Mozeliak is not quite ready to commit to having Taveras on the opening day roster. But, Mozeliak definitely sounds excited about the youngster's future in a Cardinals' uniform.
