The St. Louis Cardinals, coming off an impressive and very important three-game stretch over the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend, had an off day before getting ready to host the lowly Milwaukee Brewers. The off day not only gave the Cardinals some time off before the stretch run, but it also gave the guys from Fan Interference on CBS Sports 920 AM in St. Louis some time to catch up with MLB.com and St. Louis Cardinals beat writer Jenifer Langosch (@langoschMLB) to discuss the latest with the Cardinals. A variety of topics came up, including how the Cardinals 10-7 record during a tough 17-game stretch was overlooked some because of various injuries and a struggling starting rotation. Langosch also gave her thoughts on whether Michael Wacha figures to get a look as a member of the starter in the rotation come playoff time, who her Game 2 starter would be if she could set the rotation, if Allen Craig will be able to return in time for the playoffs in any capacity, even as a pinch h...

Schedule favors Cardinals down the stretch

After sending a message to the Pirates that basically said "Not in our house", the Cardinals ended a 17-game stretch against the best teams in the NL (Braves, Reds and Pirates) with a 10-7 record and a 1.5 game lead in the division. Things should get easier from here, as the Cardinals face 5 teams with a combined winning percentage of just .457 in their final 19 games...

Make it or break it time for Lance Lynn?

After another poor outing last Thursday, Cardinals GM Mozeliak and Manager Mike Matheny did not mince words about the importance of Wednesday's start for Lance Lynn.  Mozeliak indicated that Lynn's next start could be his last to prove he belongs in the rotation, while Matheny echoed Mo's words, emphasizing the importance of getting Lynn sorted out. If Lynn can return...

Wacha's weekend performance shows midseason break was wise investment for Cards

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Talk about a wise investment. Not long after the Cardinals sent down rookie right-hander Michael Wacha in mid-June, they gave him a couple of extended breaks. He ended up pitching 27 13 innings in a seven-week stretch through July. He wasn't injured or in need of time off. The Cardinals wanted to bank some innings for the stretch. Well, the stretch has arrived...

Carpenter helps keep Cardinals triples alive

The triple is becoming a less and less frequent appearance in St. Louis Cardinals games, and across Major League Baseball, for that matter. With the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates facing off this past weekend, two of the National League leaders in the three-base hit were on the field. League leader Starling Marte of Pittsburgh has 10. After tripling on Friday night,...

Not just red, but Cardinals red. "It's been a little different," Axford said. "Even...

A Sinking Ship Takes On More Water

The big news headed into the weekend?  The Pirates wouldn't have a losing season for the first time in over 20 years. By getting to 81 wins, they were assured to snap the streak. However, heading out of the weekend, they aren't guaranteed to have a winning season either.  Because they still have just 81 wins. Like I've been saying all along, just get Allen...
