If game one is any indicator then the rest of the National League Championship Series should be amazing. The St. Louis Cardinals needed 13 innings to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2. After each team scored two runs in the third inning they then played nine more innings before the Cardinals prevailed in the 13th.  Pinch hitter Daniel Descalso led off the bottom of the 13th inning with a single. Second baseman Matt Carpenter then drew a walk setting the table for one of the best postseason hitters of all time, Carlos Beltran. Before Beltran came to the plate the Dodgers brought in their closer, Kenley Jansen.  Unfazed, Beltran smoked a ball down the right field line allowing Descalso to score from second base. The game ended at nearly 1:30am ET giving both teams just over 14 hours until game two today at 4:07pm ET on TBS.  Game two will feature perhaps the best pitcher on the planet taking the mound for the Dodgers in left-hander Clayton Kershaw(17-9, 1.77 ERA).  He will be opposed by Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha(5-1, 2.63 ERA). Wacha was nearly untouchable in his start in game four of the NLDS against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In seven and third innings a solo shot from Pedro Alverez was the only hit surrendered by Wacha. The Cardinals would go onto forcing a game five with a, 2-1, victory over the Pirates. Kershaw has struggled against the Cardinals this season. St. Louis beat him twice during the regular season. That being said I’m sure that to a man in the Dodgers clubhouse there is no one they would rather have on the mound to face the Cardinals in game two. Since there is such a short turn around between games one and two it’s doubtful that either team will do a full workout including batting practice before today’s game. Regardless, you don’t want to miss this incredible pitching match up in game two of the NLCS.
