During the 1909 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates won their first World Series title, winning 110 games during the regular season, then defeating the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in the seven game postseason series. The star player on that team was Honus Wagner, but his rookie double play partner that year had a helping hand in getting the Pirates to that first title.

Just a disclaimer before I start this post. I'm working on kind of switching up the way I do things here on the blog. Before, a large majority of my posts were dedicated to game recaps and the like. I'm attempting to get away from that. I may still do it occasionally but only when I have writer's block. The big reason I did that for so long is in hopes...
The Indianapolis Indians were eliminated from the International League playoffs tonight, ending their season. That also wraps up the minor league season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The major league season has a little less than a month to go. But do the Pirates have anything left to play for?
I’ve got to be honest here. I didn’t watch much of the last two games. On Friday I was...

The Pirates welcome the Cubs to town for part two of their homestand against the new cellar-dwellers of the NL Central. This weekend should be another chance for the Bucs to inch closer to that 82nd win and gain ground on some wild card contenders, since the Cubbies have...
Indianapolis lost game two of their playoff series against Charlotte last night, putting them down 2-0 in the best-of-five series. The two teams now switch locations to Charlotte for the rest of the series. Indianapolis will go with Phil Irwin, to try to stave off elimination. The DSL Pirates won their championship yesterday, giving the Pirates another minor league title this year...

Kris Johnson started but pitched only one inning.
The Indianapolis Indians’ 2012 season has come to an end, as they lost to the Charlotte Knights at Knights’ Stadium tonight. The Knights won this best-of-five playoff series, 3 games to 1, and they will move on to face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the Governor’s Cup series...
We probably shouldn’t be this excited about the Pirates easily beating the Astros 6-3 this late in the season, but with the way the Buccos have looked the second half and with yesterday’s lineup featuring Clint Barmes batting second, Rod Barajas behind the plate, Alex Presley filling in for an injured Starling Marte, Travis Snider, Jose Tabata and Kevin Correia getting another...
You could look at the final score of last night’s 12-2 loss to the Cubs and just chalk it up to the Pirates blowing games that they should win down the stretch and then spending the rest of your Friday night being pissy with everyone. But if that’s the stance you’re taking, you obviously didn’t watch this one because it. was. hilarious.
Oh yea, the Bucs should have been...
