By Will CavedoSportsonastick.comApril 17, 2009Taking a page from his father's management philosophy, New York Yankees executive Hank Steinbrenner has stepped in and fired the team's $1.5 billion new stadium after a poor performance in the Yankees' 2009 home opener."That whole thing was completely unacceptable," said Steinbrenner after the Yankees' 10-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians, "the Yankees will always strive to be a team of winners, and this stadium is just not a winner. We're parting ways and that's that."Steinbrenner's brother and Yankees co-executive, Hal, had very little to say about the matter, but stood by his brother's decision."Look," said Hal, "when you pay that much for a guy or building, you want to make sure he or it is living up to expectations, but that performance wasn't anywhere close to what we were looking for."The Stadium had no comments on the matter, but it is expected to land on its feet. By the evening after the disappointing loss, rumors were already swirling about potential destinations for the 52,000 seat stadium.New York Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said, "We'd love to have Yankee Stadium on board with the Mets. We've had a couple of informal talks about us playing there and the Yankees moving to Citi [Field, the Mets' new stadium]. We're thinking of giving it a try-out on an episode of 'Trading Spaces.'Wilpon's statements are considered mostly speculation at this time, as 'Trading Spaces' was cancelled in February.
