The Cardinals’ affiliates went 1-3 on Thursday as Springfield was the only victor, and it came on a walk-off single from Luis Mateo. Stephen Piscotty hit his first home run of the season for Memphis, also his first homer at the Triple-A level. Starting pitching struggled on Thursday night as all four starters had a rough go. Here are the highlights from Thursday’s action: Memphis 4 Nashville 5 Game Highlights The Memphis Redbirds fell behind early and could not come all the way back on Thursday against the Nashville Sounds, losing 5-4. The ‘Birds trailed 5-1 after four innings and slowly clawed their way back with two in the fifth and a run the sixth, but that was all they could muster. Boone Whiting takes the mound for the Redbirds (8-6) in their series finale with Nashville on Friday. In the 9th, Rafael Ortega led off the inning with a single. Patrick Wisdom, the next batter, dropped a bunt to the pitcher and he threw wildly to second allowing Ortega to go to third. Luis Mateo, making his 2014 debut with Springfield, singled scoring Ortega and ending the game. Sam Gaviglio takes the mound for Springfield (6-7) on Friday night. For those of you that missed it, Casey Rasmus was put on the 7-day DL earlier this week and the team picked up Adam Ehrlich from Extended Spring. Palm Beach also added Matt Williams from Springfield and released outfielder Steven Ramos. Kyle Hald looks for his third win of the season on Friday as the Cards (6-8) and Stone Crabs meet again at Roger Dean Stadium. Wayne 6 Game Highlights After sweeping a doubleheader on Wednesday against Lake County, the Peoria Chiefs lost a heartbreaker to Fort Wayne on Thursday. The Chiefs scored twice in the eighth to take a 5-4 lead but allowed single runs in the bottom of the 8th and bottom of the 9th to fall to 8-5 on the season.
