Well, it did not take too long for the Pirates to make a roster move to make room for their recent acquisitions. Reliever Steven Jackson has been designated for assignment to make room for the additions of Ryan Church, Brendan Donnelly, and Brandon Jones. The roster now stands at 40 players with Octavio Dotel nearing a deal.Jackson, 27, is coming off a rookie season where he pitched 43 innings out of the Pirates' bullpen. He posted a 3.14 ERA despite walking 22 batters and striking out only 21. He was used primarily as a ground ball specialist when the team needed a double play.I am a bit surprised about this move as I would have guessed that Anthony Claggett would be the first pitcher to be removed from the 40-man roster, not Jackson. Either way, Jackson probably was not going to fit into the bullpen this season with the additions of Donnelly, Carrasco, and Dotel.
