The Pirates and Yankees are still trying to work out an A.J. Burnett trade. It seems that most people close to the situation agree that it’s going to happen eventually, but the teams are still negotiating how much of Burnett’s salary the Bucs will pay and what prospects the Bucs will send to New York. Pretty much everything in the update I posted on Friday still applies, which is why I didn’t bother to add anything over the weekend. Neal Huntington should stand his ground on this one. The Yanks are desperate to get rid of Burnett and while I think it would be a good move for the Bucs to acquire him, they aren’t nearly as desperate to do so. It doesn’t seem like there are many other teams interested (if any), so the Pirates shouldn’t have to meet New York’s current demand of more than $13 million or a better set of prospects. I would not be pleased if the Pirates sent away a relatively promising prospect for Burnett; it should be one or two guys like Aaron Baker (who was traded this ...
