The Milwaukee Brewers are becoming accustomed to having a new injury almost every day, but it was difficult to see this one coming. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy was scratched from the starting lineup Monday night at Los Angeles with a right hand injury suffered when a suitcase fell on it the previous evening in his hotel room. Lucroy was sent for X-rays before the series opener against the Dodgers, and he was found to have a broken bone. He is expected to be out four to six weeks. It was yet another injury in what has become a ridiculous season for the Brewers on the health front. They currently have seven players on the DL, including three out for the season -- left-hander Chris Narveson (rotator cuff surgery), first baseman Mat Gamel (torn right ACL) and shortstop Alex Gonzalez (torn right ACL). Lucroy's injury came at a bad time for the catcher and the Brewers. He was one of the hottest hitters in the National League with a .388 average in the month of May, and he led the major leagues with a remarkable .514 average with runners in scoring position. Asked if he could only shake his head over the latest injury news, manager Ron Roenicke said, "No, not really, because I'd be shaking it every day." With the constant barrage of injuries, Roenicke was asked to assess the state of his team. "We have all of this stuff going on, and we're not playing well," he said. "The combination certainly doesn't make this fun, but we still should be winning some games, a lot more games than we have. So, it's disappointing in all areas, to all of the guys. "Our guys are still real good (mentally) right now. We'll see what happens. At the beginning, when we had a couple of injuries, they still knew we had a good enough team to win our division. Hopefully, that thought hasn't changed, but it's going to come into play." George Kottaras filled in for Lucroy on Monday and went 0-for-3, but the Brewers pulled out a 3-2 win over the Dodgers thanks to a sharp start from Shaun Marcum.
