Sox and Dawgs:
Boston Red Sox
Given everything that's happening around the Boston Red Sox right now, you'd think they were about 10 games under .500. That's simply not the case.
After last night's 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves, the Red Sox are still a last place team but are three games above .500 at 37-34. And as I said the other day, it's still too early to talk about the wild card but they are two games out of the final wild card spot in the AL.
The problem is the distractions surrounding the rumors about Kevin Youkilis and the possible trade from the Red Sox. As you look at the rumors from yesterday and this morning, it's not a matter of if he'll be traded, but when. That's half the problem. The other is the communication between Bobby Valentine and Youk.
Before yesterday's game, Youk said he hadn't been told about why he's not playing. Valentine said the opposite. I think we all know why Youk's not playing.
It's the hot bat of Will Middlebrooks w...
BEST OF MAXIM
Will Middlebrooks continued his dominating play Thursday night, coming through in the clutch for the Red Sox. With Boston trailing 5-3 in the eight inning, it was Middlebrooks' two-run home run that tied the game, setting the stage for an eventual Sox win. His blast set up Daniel Nava to hit the game-winning RBI single later in the inning, allowing Boston to win the game 6-5...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
His job security at third base is now as tight as Dustin Pedroia [stats]’s at second base and Adrian Gonzalez’ at first.
Youkilis’ whereabouts no longer have an impact on the daily...
Will Middlebrooks' whirlwind week ended in fitting fashion, as the Red Sox third baseman captured American League Player of the Week honors. Middlebrooks, who becomes the team's everyday starter down at the hot corner following the Kevin Youkilis trade, received the honor on Monday. The 23-year-old hit .625 (10-for-16) with three home runs, three doubles, 10 RBIs and six...
BOSTON (AP) -- Will Middlebrooks had a solo homer among his three hits and drove in two runs, Franklin Morales gave Boston another decent start in place of Josh Beckett and the Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 8-4 on Saturday night.
Dustin Pedroia added three hits, a walk and had two RBIs for Boston, which won for the eighth time in 10 games to ensure a winning interleague record...
Bobby V. has decided to go with Will Middlebrooks at third and return Adrian Gonzalez to first base for the time being. This means that Youk has to ride pine. Middlebrooks is swinging a hot bat and Youk is putting up the worst numbers of his career. The Red Sox had wanted Youkilis to put up some better numbers to increase his trade value but Middlebrooks' production at...
Will to Win!!!
Thursday June 21, 2012- Will Middlebrooks has already become a fan favorite this year in Boston with his tremendous play during his promotion to Boston. He has already has Sox fans say Kevin who? Middlebrooks spectacular play has pushed the Sox to on the verge to trade the struggling veteran Kevin Youkilis. If he continues this play he will certainly take home...
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that struggling third baseman Kevin Youkilis has been told by manager Bobby Valentine that he will be benched in favor of top prospect Will Middlebrooks.
Youkilis, a 33 year old nine year veteran, is batting just .225 on the season with unusually low .670 OPS. The Cincinnati, Ohio native and former eighth round pick of the Red Sox is usually...
Will Middlebrooks is on fire as of late, and it's awfully difficult to find any reason behind sitting down the budding young star. On Friday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine revealed that he would be staying with the "hot hand" in Middlebrooks and that Kevin Youkilis would take a seat in the interim. Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe discussed Middlebrooks news role...

BOSTON –– After weeks of alternating third basemen, Bobby Valentine realized a solution was necessary. So the juggling act between Will Middlebrooks and Kevin Youkilis has run its course. With most of his outfielders healthy, Valentine can't afford to continue sliding Adrian Gonzalez into right field to open a first base spot in the lineup for Youkilis. By slotting Gonzalez...
Although all of the big names may be taken in your fantasy league, there are always options on the waiver wire. The following players are available in the majority of leagues, have been streaking over the past week and may be worth a look to fill a need on your roster:
Pedro Alvarez (PIT) 3B [23% owned] –
As streaky as they come, the aggressive hitter is currently on a tear. The...
After several weeks of trade rumors, the Boston Red Sox have parted ways with Kevin Youkilis, a fan favorite and two-time World Series winner.
Will Middlebrooks and the Red Sox will try to keep rolling without him Monday night as they open a three-game home series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Following the emergence of Middlebrooks, Youkilis found himself the odd man out in Boston...
“State Of The Sox” is a weekly Friday piece detailing where the Red Sox currently stand in Major League Baseball and whether or not they can be successful going forward. We apologize if, at times, it comes across as a bit harsh.
All anyone can ask is that the Red Sox play hard. That they care. That they swing the bats like they want to hit. That they don’t give up.
