In front of a not-so-national TV audience (and some dreadful announcers, from what I’m being told), the Bucs battled to a solid victory in what had to be PNC Park’s first ever mid-afternoon Pirates game.
Charlie Morton still owns the Reds. He actually did allow two runs (in the first and sixth innings), but he still did a very solid job and left the game with the lead. Chuck struck out two, walked one, and allowed seven hits over his six innings, but was very much in control of things and limited the damage the few times Cincinnati threatened. For the season, he’s now 3-0 with an 0.93 ERA against the Reds (who lead the NL in runs scored) over 29 innings.
The Bucs were able to put some runs on the board against Dontrelle Willis, quickly erasing an early deficit and eventually handing Morton a lead. After getting two singles to start the fourth, the red-hot Neil Walker tried to lay down a bunt (apparently on his own). Just an awful decision – up next was Brando...
