CHICAGO (AP) -- Nick Swisher's approach couldn't have been more simple. The result couldn't have been more timely. Swisher ripped a long solo homer to cap a four-run ninth inning against Addison Reed Friday night, lifting the Cleveland Indians to a 9-8 victory over the Chicago White Sox for a sweep of the longest doubleheader by time for two nine-inning games. "It's a major league record, right?" Swisher asked. "Definitely a long day." After pounding Chicago 19-10 in the opener in a game that lasted 4 hours, 2 minutes, the Indians came through in the end to take a nightcap that ran 3:51. The 7:53 total made it the longest doubleheader with two nine-inning games on record, but the marathon came to an end after Swisher delivered a crushing blow. Throw in 63 minutes between games -- a 38-minute break, and, get this, a 25-minute rain delay -- and that's one marathon at the ballpark. Reed (3-1) entered with an 8-5 lead in the ninth but quickly ran ...

Trend Spotting: On the star that is Jason Kipnis

Starting the second game of the Indians twin bill against the White Sox, splitting time between Seinfield and the torturously slow Jose Quintana, I began to pour over the absurdity of production that is Jason Kipnis. Perhaps it is “trendy” to discuss Jason’s torrid rate but for intents and purposes it is an unavoidable discourse that ends in me drooling over his fangraphs...

House struggles in Columbus return, Clippers lose 8-4

NORFOLK- The Columbus Clippers fell to the Norfolk Tides Friday night, 8-4. Even after a late rally in the ninth the Clippers could not come up with enough to make up for their early deficit to Norfolk. TJ House started on the mound for Columbus for his first start back since being sent down from Cleveland. House pitched a shaky two innings walking one batter, hitting a Norfolk batter...

Indians aim for sweep in Chicago

It's been over 18 years since the Cleveland Indians swept a four-game series from the Chicago White Sox. The Indians may have to get the best of Chris Sale on Sunday to end that drought, but that wasn't a problem in their last matchup with Chicago's ace. Since losing a season-high eight straight, the Indians (43-38) have gone in the opposite direction by winning 13 of...

Indians Chris Perez Activated from DL, Resumes Closing Duties

The Cleveland Indians have activated Chris Perez from the 15-day disabled list after the closer missed just over a month due to a strained right rotator cuff. Perez will join the Indians in the middle of a series with the Baltimore Orioles and will retake the reigns as primary closer from Vinnie Pestano, who performed solidly in Perez’s absence.Pestano was five-for-five in save...

6/30 Recap: Indians - White Sox

Roster Update: As if eight relievers on the current roster and 17 different pitchers on the roster in the past five days wasn't enough, the Indians brought Nick Hagadone back to the team after just two days in Columbus. They were able to do this by placing Michael Bourn on the paternity list. Hopefully, the Indians will use this opportunity to rid themselves of Rich Hill for...

Corey Kluber, Indians fizzle out in series finale against Baltimore, lose 7-3

With the gaze of Cleveland sports fans firmly on the Cavaliers and the NBA draft, the Indians picked a good night to play uninspired baseball. Early on, it looked as though Corey Kluber (6-5, 4.16 ERA) would keep the Indians in the game and add another strong performance to his surprising summer. That came to a screeching halt in the fifth inning when Kluber allowed five runs. The...

Around the Farm: June 27, 2013

Luis Lugo (SP, Mahoning Valley): 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. Lugo has gone exactly five innings in all three of his starts and is showing that he may have found...

White Sox Rumors: Giants, Rangers and Diamondbacks scouting Alex Rios

The White Sox are likely to be sellers at the deadline and teams are starting to take notice. While the White Sox may be sellers, they have made it clear that Paul Konerko and Chris Sale are not for sale. See what I did there? The Diamondbacks, Rangers and Giants are starting to scout White Sox outfielder Alex Rios, according to ESPN's Bruce Levine. It is unclear why...
