Tampa Bay Rays’ Yunel Escobar started off this slick double play on Wednesday night with a filthy behind-the-back flip to Ben Zobrist. Zobrist then barehanded the ball and rifled it to first to finish off the double play. This was an absolutely fantastic play, and a web gem for sure.
BEST OF MAXIM
Turning a double play is always a feat in and of itself, but making it look pretty is a practiced art form.
On Wednesday night, Yanul Escobar was quite the artist. In the bottom of the fourth inning of Wednesday night’s game, the Red Sox’ Dustin Pedroia hit what looked like a seeing-eye single, but Escobar wouldn’t let that fly. The Rays shortstop ranged up the middle to make...

The Rays announced that right-hander Taylor Guerrieri, considered to be their top pitching prospect, had successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He is expected to miss the rest of the 2013 season and at least part of the 2014 campaign.
The top pitching prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Taylor Guerrieri, underwent Tommy John surgery today and will most likely be out until the 2015 season.
Guerrieri was slated to pitch in the 2013 Futures Game, but was scratched due to fatigue, which appeared to follow him into his most recent start on July 15, where he was pulled in the third inning with elbow soreness...
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Torres busted out one of the most creative pickoff moves we’ve seen Wednesday night against the Red Sox. Granted, Jarrod Saltalamacchia beat Torres’ throw back to first, but COME ON. Look at the creativity and the deception. [Continue Reading]
I’m surprised there isn’t more creativity being applied to pickoff moves. I guess you can spend your time...
