The highlight of the St. Louis Cardinals 2012 season had to be their stirring comeback win over the Washington Nationals in the five-game National League Division Series.
Due to the compressed schedule caused by the addition of the second wild card, the best-of-five National League Division Series had a one-time change in format. The lower-seeded team hosted the first two games, with the final three at the home of the higher-seeded club.
Busch Stadium was the site of the opener between the Cardinals and the East Division champion Washington Nationals, the team with MLB’s best regular season record, with 98 wins. The Cardinals led 2-1 before Pete Kozma’s eighth-inning error lead to a pair of unearned runs in Washington’s 3-2 win. Adam Wainwright struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
Carlos Beltran hit the last two of the Cardinals’ four home runs as ineffective Jordan Zimmermann took the loss in Game 2. The 12-4 rout of the Nationals tied the series at one game apiece....

Evaluating The Adam LaRoche Signing
The Washington Nationals' quiet offseason was granted some new life on Tuesday as the team re-signed their 2012 first baseman Adam LaRoche. It was a drawn out process between LaRoche and Rizzo, but ultimately, everyone knew that LaRoche had limited options.
LaRoche’s deal is for two years at $24 million, which is an extremely reasonable rate for arguably the best first...

TCN Blog 2012 Cardinals top story #2: The NLCS collapse
The greatest disappointment of the St. Louis Cardinals’ 2012 season occurred in their highest level of play as they fell to the eventual World Champion San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series.
After having taken the one-game wild card competition in Atlanta, the Cardinals dispatched the Washington Nationals in their Division Series. In the other NLDS matchup...
Player Profile #161: Yadier Molina | C | STL
We all know Yadier Molina for his defense behind the plate, but that never really helped out your fantasy team. His best fantasy quality up until 2011 was that he was a catcher you could rely on to get you 450 at-bats, hit for a decent batting average and surprisingly swipe some bases. However in his last two seasons, he has really started to contribute offensively by hitting .310...
Nationals' Michael Morse's Value is Increasing
Michael Morse only played in 102 games last season, but he soon may find himself one of the hottest trade targets on the market this offseason. Now that the Washington Nationals have signed Adam LaRoche to a two-year deal, Morse finds himself without a regular spot to play in the 2013 season. This means, the Nationals may shop him.
The source of this rumor, and the belief...

Mike Morse and the rumor mill
Ever since the Washington Nationals inked Adam LaRoche to a new two year deal yesterday, the rumor mill on trade possibilities for the Nats and Mike Morse have heated up. As we wrote in our Live Microphone yesterday, GM Mike Rizzo would like to move Morse, but certainly does not need to for financial reason and will not just give Morse away for little return. One thing is clear...

Trading for Nationals Slugger Mike Morse ‘Makes Sense’ for Red Sox, Says Ken Rosenthal
The Red Sox didn’t land Adam LaRoche this offseason, but because the Nationals did (at two years, $24 million), it may open up talks for another first baseman — 30-year-old Nats right-handed slugger Mike Morse.
Morse, who has been the subject of recent contact between the Sox and the Nats, makes sense Boston, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Morse, who became expendable this week...
Why Morse makes sense for Boston
Adam LaRoche was one thing – the Boston Red Sox didn’t want to sign him to a three-year free-agent contract and forfeit their second-round draft pick as compensation.
But, as the Red Sox enter Day 40 of their standoff with free-agent catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli, why wouldn’t they want to trade for the Washington Nationals’ Mike Morse?
The Sox, sources say,...
