The following is a Bronx Baseball Daily exclusive from friend of the blog Lisa Held. After investing in a juice company called Juice Press, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was at an event celebrating the opening of a new location and got to talking about Mariano Rivera. Rivera has dropped hints this offseason that he might retire at the end of the season, but Teixeira isn’t buying it. “I don’t think he’s going to retire,” Teixeira said of Mo’s possible retirement. “I really think he has at least a few seasons left in him.” The slightly slimmed-down Teixeira is leaving for Spring Training this Thursday, after investing—personally and monetarily—in the company that makes cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices during the off-season. Tex discovered Juice Press about four months ago, and has been drinking green juices (which are a blend of fresh fruits and vegetables) almost every day since. He’s also done several juice cleanses, periods where he refrains from eating and just d...

New York Yankees: Who likes criticizing Mo cause I do not

Image via Wikipedia Unfortunately it seems there’s always a first time for everything. Good or Bad. And criticizing New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will be a first for me. FIRST, LET ME SAY HOW I FEEL ABOUT MO: Rivera is not only the greatest closer to ever play the game; he is the paramount of a role model for the way he handles himself both on and off the field. Baseball...

Audio: What Mo Actually Said About Retirement

It's been a long Winter and everyone connected with the Yankees in any capacity, including the media, has, I'm sure, been itching to get off asses and do something baseball-related. Mariano Rivera gave everyone that chance yesterday when he made his now-famous comments about his future (or, maybe not-so-future) retirement. My Twitter timeline exploded with tweets from beat...

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Bryan Shaw's cutter drawing high comparisons

Shaw throws a cut fastball that some in the Diamondbacks clubhouse liken to that of Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.

Rivera has decided if this is final season

He has made similar comments in the past, dating back more than a decade, but now with the all-time saves record in hand, and his age finally matching his famous uniform number, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera sounds a lot like someone who is about to play his last season.

Is Rivera Retiring? Who Will Replace Him?

“Doesn’t depend on how I pitch. Always I want to do my job, but I’ve made my decision already,” Mariano Rivera told reporters the other day. He added that his decision has been made, “even if I save 90 games, even if they want to pay as much money as they want to.” It sounds like we saw the beginning of the “Mariano Rivera farewell tour,”...

David Robertson says Mariano Rivera could Brett Favre the Yankees

Mariano Rivera is 42 years old and entering his 18th season with the Yankees. The 12-time All-Star said this week he knows when he’s going to retire, but he won’t divulge the date. Fellow reliever David Robertson is being considered as a potential closer replacement if Mo does hang it up. Robertson knows that will be a tough role. “It’s something I would want...

Robertson hopes Rivera pulls a Favre

TAMPA — Replacing a legend isn’t easy, but somebody has to do it. Just as Tino Martinez took over for Don Mattingly at first base in 1996 and Joe Girardi moved into the manager’s office in place of Joe Torre in 2008, somebody will have the unenviable task of succeeding Mariano Rivera as the Yankees’ next closer.

Moose: Mo will be more at ease after making decision

TAMPA — If Mariano Rivera has decided this is it, Mike Mussina says that could help his former teammate, even though the all-time saves leader hardly needs another advantage. Prior to the 2008 season Mussina decided he would retire at the end of the year. He told a few teammates, but...

Yanks bullpen adds Aardsma

TAMPA — The Yankees added another closer to their roster Wednesday, but don’t expect Mariano Rivera to lose much sleep.

Robertson knows those are big shoes to fill

TAMPA — A few minutes after David Robertson talked about what big shoes he will have to fill after Mariano Rivera retires, The Great Rivera laced up his size 11 turf shoes a couple lockers down from Robertson in the Yankees’ clubhouse. “These are big shoes to fill,’’ a smiling Rivera...
