The BBWAA has revealed their 2013 Manager of the Year award winners, and they are Terry Francona of the Cleveland Indians and Clint Hurdle of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Francona received 16 of 30 first place votes and 112 points to win his first ever Manager of the Year award. Just two years ago, Francona was fired by the Boston Red Sox after watching over a late season collapse that saw the Red Sox miss the Postseason. This year, Francona led the Indians to a 92-70 record and their first playoff berth since 2007. The Tribe was eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays in the wild card playoff game. John Farrell of the World Champion Red Sox was the runner-up to Francona, earning 12 first place votes and 96 points. 2012 winner Bob Melvin of the Oakland Athletics was third with the other two first place votes and 36 points. Joe Girardi, Joe Maddon, Jim Leyland, Buck Showalter, Ron Washington, and Ned Yost rounded out the voting with 11, nine, three, one, one, and one points apiece. Hurdle seemed to be the obvious choice in the National League, and sure enough, he received 25 of 30 first place votes and 140 points to easily win the National League award. Hurdle's Pirates went 94-68 this year, making the playoffs and finishing above .500 for the first time since 1992. Only three other managers in the NL even received votes, with Don Mattingly of the Dodgers getting two first place votes and 68 point, Fredi Gonzalez of the Braves receiving three first place votes and 43 points, and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals netting 19 points to finish in fourth.
