With four of the five relieves from 2009 not returning this season, one of GM Neal Huntington’s on-going projects this off-season was the reconstruction of the Pirates bullpen.  It came as no surprise then when the Bucs claimed reliever Hayden Penn from the Florida Marlins just days before the season started. It’s a finely honed technique called throw-enough-things-at-the-wall-and-hopefully-something-will-stick. I think it’s safe to say that Hayden Penn has bounced to the ground.

In case you missed it, here’s a time line of Penn’s tenure with the Pirates:

March 29 – Claimed off of waivers from the Florida Marlins.

April 5 – Makes Pirates opening day roster.

April 8 – Pitching line vs. Dodgers: 1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4...
