Found March 21, 2012 on Baseball Prospectus:
The Rockies need reliable starting pitchers and have a plethora of infielders. The Phillies are running out of infielders and have a surplus of starting pitchers. Perhaps general managers Dan O’Dowd and Ruben Amaro Jr. should have a chat. With two weeks remaining before Opening Day, Colorado’s rotation plan is still to throw a bunch of things at a wall and hope five of them stick. Jeremy Guthrie, Drew Pomeranz, and Jhoulys Chacin are locks, though Chacin has dealt with a blister on his pitching hand and was far too hittable on Monday night. Juan Nicasio’s recovery from a broken neck may be the feel-good story of the year. That leaves a four-way battle for the number-five spot, between Tyler Chatwood, Guillermo Moscoso, Jamie Moyer, and Alex White. Chatwood may one day be a solid back-of-the-rotation starter, but he was nearly a win below replacement for the Angels last year and could use more seasoning. Moscoso thrived in the vast pastures of The Coliseum in 2011 but was lucky...

The comeback of Juan Nicasio is beyond words for the Colorado Rockies

Juan Nicasio delivers a pitch in his rookie campaign of 2011No one would have guessed it. When Juan Nicasio went down after being drilled in the face by an Ian Desmond line drive back in August, everyone hoped for the best. They hoped for the best, but feared the worst. As word got back to the Rockies and their fans, it seemed as if the worst had happened. The news of Nicasio'...

MLB Preview 2012: Colorado Rockies

The biggest issue surrounding the Colorado Rockies this season will be the issue that has surrounded them since their infancy, pitching. You have to be a certain type of pitcher to be successful in Colorado, one that has a sinker or is typically a ground ball pitcher. Fly ball pitchers get shelled in Coors Canaveral. Another problem is injuries. Can Troy Tulowitzki stay healthy...

Ever literal Todd Helton reminds teammates today is technically first day of spring training

SCOTTSDALE, AZ—Pitchers and catchers have been working out at the Rockies spring training facility for over a month now, but veteran first baseman Todd Helton, who teammates describe as taking everything so “goddamn literally,” made it a point to remind everyone that today was technically the first actual day of “spring” training. “Really,” said a smug Helton...

MLB Preview: Colorado Rockies

2011 RecapThe Rockies struggled to a 73-89 record in 2011, good for fourth place in the NL West. Despite the struggles, there were some bright spots, as shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (.302 BA, 30 HR, 105 RBI) and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez (.295 BA, 26 HR, 92 RBI) were among the league leaders in OPS. The team traded away starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, but was able to get great value...

Rockies glad to be flying under the radar

Todd Helton couldn't convey how glad he was that nobody's talking about the Colorado Rockies this year - and that was even before his college buddy Peyton Manning decided to play for the Denver Broncos. A year ago, it seemed everybody had already anointed the Rockies the NL West champions after a busy offseason in which they committed nearly $300 million to their budding...

Padres 10, Rockies 6

Troy Tulowitzki finally homered to drive in his first run of the spring Tuesday night in the Colorado Rockies' 10-6 loss to the San Diego Padres. The Colorado shortstop said his spring numbers have little bearing on what he tries to accomplish during the exhibition season. He also is aware it's a luxury he is afforded because of his five-plus years of service time and the...

Will Ubaldo Haunt the Rockies?

Last August's controversial trade between the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians saw both clubs out of contention at the end of the season. The Rockies acquired three young pitchers, two have been arrested, one is projected to make the big league rotation, and one has already been sent to minor league camp. But, what's the news from the Cleveland side?
