The Chicago Cubs have watched an interesting offseason. They saw Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols leave the National League all together.  The Milwaukee Brewers were hit even harder when 2011 MVP Ryan Braun tested positive for PED’s in his system. Braun maybe suspended for 50 games depending how his litigation and appeal battle go. The Chicago Cubs and Theo Epstein have told the Chicago Cubs fan base that it will take some time to make the Chicago Cubs a winner consistently. Well when two of your division rivals that made the playoffs in 2011, St. Louis and Milwaukee, both loose key players to free agency and possibly a suspension the Cubs can look at the team they have and say to themselves we can surprise a lot of people this season and win the division. The Cincinnati Reds are going to be favored to win the National League Central Division because of their starting pitching and potent offense.  Other than the Reds you can assume the Cardinals will take some major steps back...

What to Expect in 2012: Albert Pujols

I’m working on case by case predictions for players. Number one on my list was Albert Pujols. As a Cardinal fan, I wanted to see what he could do in Los Angeles and what he could have done if he stayed in St. Louis. Just to look at my projections, here was what I had him at for 2011 before the season started. Year Age G R H HR RBI AVG OBP SLG 2011 Projected 31 136 91 151...

Yadier Molina: He’s No Pujols

BREAKING NEWS: Yadier Molina is not Albert Pujols.  The catcher for the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals is entering the final year of his current contract, and, unless extended will become a free agent once the upcoming season ends.  And that’s about where the similarities between the redbirds’ catcher, and their former first baseman end. Molina, 29, has garnered some attention...

Ryan Braun has brains, and looks good with Wranglers on

It was August 26th 1995, just after 8 o’clock on a balmy 94-degree summer evening in a modest southern California suburb, just outside of San Fernando. In the middle of a fresh-cut lush green backyard lawn, a boy laid flat on his back, gazed blankly into the night sky, and popped a baseball back-and-forth from his bare right hand to his gloved left. A set of wireless radio headphones...

Cactus League countdown: Milwaukee Brewers

Following the Milwaukee Brewers' best season in nearly 30 years, general manager Doug Melvin stressed that it would be difficult to improve on a 96-win team. That's an especially tricky task when youve lost one of baseball's best players and might lose a second for nearly a third of the season. With much uncertainty, the Brewers enter the post-Prince Fielder era this...

Et Tu, Molina? (Pars Duo)

A few years ago I wrote a cautionary piece foretelling the eventual departure of one Yadier Molina — SUPREME JEFFY MANCRUSH — if the Cardinals somehow didn’t resign Albert Pujols to a long, career stabilizing contract. I wrote it flippantly, thinking this will never happen in real life. And then real life hit. Albert Pujols is gone and Yadi doesn’t seem to...
