We can all agree that the t-shirt pictured above has to be one of the best Jim Leyland t-shirts we’ve ever seen. Not that we’ve seen many Jim Leyland t-shirts, but we’ll go out on a limb and say you just can’t get much better than that. But unfortunately, the Detroit Tigers don’t want you to be able to purchase one of the best Jim Leyland t-shirts we’ve ever seen. The Tigers have taken legal action against a bar called “The Dirty Trick” who’s selling the y-shirts for $22. Their beef with t-shirt has to do with the Old English D logo on Leyland’s hat and the image that a photo of Jim Leyland smoking portrays.Just in time for baseball season, The Dirty Trick, at Woodward and East Adams, is selling a T-shirt that features the likeness of Tigers manager Jim Leyland on the front with a lit cigarette dangling from the left side of his mouth. The shirts were being sold for $22 at the bar Sunday night, but owner Louis Colombo said Monday he might halt sales because of a legal dilemma with the...

Smoking Jimmy T-shirt sales will be halted

Jim Leyland is never one without his cigarettes, well that was until Wayne County banned smoking indoors, which included his office and the Detroit Tiger’s clubhouse.   A local bar in Detroit honored the grizzly-voiced manager and his passion for cancer sticks with this awesome T-shirt The Dirty Trick began selling this fascinating T just yesterday for 22 bucks a pop, but...

Cabrera gets medical clearance to play

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera has been given medical clearance to play again. The third baseman has been out since being hit in the face by a bad-hop grounder on March 19. The ball broke a bone below Cabrera's right eye and caused a gash that needed eight stitches. The Tigers say Cabrera was examined Tuesday and cleared to resume his spring training...

Fifth Spot Candidates: Down to Three

What began as five pontential candidates for the Detroit Tigers’ fifth spot, has dwelded down to three. With less than two weeks left of Spring Training, manager, Jim Leyland isn’t saying who is favored to take the role of fifth starter. One thing we do know is who is still in the running: Drew Smyly, Andy Oliver, and Duane Below. Andy Oliver: Oliver came out of the gate strong...

Spring Training Box Scores

The Tigers’ 14-4 spring training record is one of the best in the majors, and one of the best in recent Tigers history. They haven’t lost back to back games all spring. Largely inconsequential, yes; but it’s better than 4-14. Spring Training stats are generally poor performance predictors, but let’s see if a deeper look can reveal anything. Ryan Raburn is pacing the Majors...

Tigers option Turner to Triple-A

The Detroit Tigers have optioned right-hander Jacob Turner to Triple-A Toledo, one of six roster cuts Monday. Detroit also reassigned right-hander Chris Bootcheck to minor league camp, along with infielders Audy Ciriaco, Argenis Diaz and Ryan Strieby and outfielder Quintin Berry. Turner is considered by many to be Detroit's top prospect and was in the running to become the...

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera says his vision is fine and that he'll be ready to play on Opening Day. Cabrera rejoined his teammates Monday for the first time since a bad-hop grounder broke a bone below his right eye a week ago. The star slugger will be examined Tuesday to see if he's OK. Tigers manager Jim Leyland has said he'll put Cabrera back in the...

Report: Magglio Ordonez close to retirement

It wasn’t an official announcement, but Magglio Ordonez is probably close to having a press release of some sort to announce his retirement from baseball, as it is becoming more and more unlikely that the Tigers, or any team for that matter, will opt not sign him to a Major League deal. He has already gone on record as saying he will not accept a minor league contract. Ordonez...

Chef Rob’s Dish of the Day: The Ultimate Tiger Killer – Brandon Inge

Over my, now nearly, 27 years on this planet it seems as though I have heard every cliché in the sports book. I know that the season is a marathon and not a sprint and I’ve heard all about how we lost this game as a team. My absolute favorite is how that one player on the opposing team is the proverbial “Tiger Killer”. Jim Thome has held this distinction for a number of years...

Tigers 3B Cabrera cleared to return

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was cleared by doctors to resume physical activity Tuesday. No timetable was given for his return to game action, but it's expected Cabrera will be ready for Opening Day on April 5 against the Boston Red Sox.Cabrera had a small fracture in the bone under his right eye and needed eight stitches after getting hit by a hard grounder...

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Rick Porcello pitched seven strong innings and Mark Buehrle was solid for six Monday as the Detroit Tigers and Miami Marlins played to a 3-all tie. The game was stopped after 10 innings. It was Detroit's fifth tie this spring. Porcello allowed one earned run and five hits. He walked one and struck out four in his longest exhibition outing. KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Austin Jackson hit an inside-the-park home run and Brennan Boesch also homered for the Detroit Tigers before the Houston Astros rallied for a 14-7 win Tuesday. Both Detroit homers came off Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez, who gave up five runs in six innings. Brian Bogusevic hit a two-run homer and a double for the Astros. Jose Altuve had three hits and...

Hey, At Least the MLB Is Honest About All These Random Spring Training Prospects

With the expanded rosters that teams are allowed to have during Spring Training, it gets tough to keep track of everyone's name. Hell, Jim Leyland can't even keep his 5th starter candidates straight half the time. So when the St. Louis Cardinals' Fox Sports broadcast does something like this, it's not like we know much better than we do. The real question is whether...
