With the news of Byrdak going down the door has opened for Josh Edgin to show his stuff. Edgin, 25, excelled for Triple-A Buffalo and as a result pitched his way onto the Major League roster as our second lefty. Now with Byrdak out he becomes the number one guy and has a chance to earn that spot for next season.
Byrdak will be a free agent come years end and if the Mets decide to let him walk, or if he decides to retire, we will need to fill that spot. Edgin dominated down in the minors before his promotion allowing just 39 hits and striking out 45 batters in 43 innings.
Since he got the call he has not disappointed. He is a hard thrower for a left hander, which is something we have not had in recent years. Josh has high strikeout potential as he has totaled 19 punch outs in his 12 innings of work.
