Andrew McCutchen, the nucleus of the Pirates The Pittsburgh Pirates just keep rolling along in the NL Central, leading the division with a 66-44 record, good for an even .600 winning percentage and a 1.5 game lead on their NL Central rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates have had an excellent season in every aspect of the game, but the man at the center of it all, is Andrew McCutchen. Just before the start of the 2013 regular season, in a previous article about the Pirates, I said that if McCutchen had a good year, the Pirates would win a handful of games because of his efforts alone, and I was not wrong. McCutchen is the nucleus of the offense, and despite the breakout season from Starling Marte and Pedro Alvarez, the impact McCutchen brings with all 5 of his tools makes him one of the most dynamic players in the league, one of the most valuable players in the league, and is a candidate for NL MVP.
