Well, that was a tough loss. Just like the first two games. After three innings, the Giants had a 6-0 lead. Around the middle of the sixth inning, they had a still-comfortable four-run lead. It really looked like they had the game locked up because Matt Cain is Matt Cain and the Giants’ bullpen is the Giants’ bullpen. A couple homers later, Arizona was within one; and after a messy seventh inning, they had taken the lead. The Giants didn’t recover. Losing the first three games of the season is never pretty. Losing them to the Arizona Diamondbacks, of all teams (given that they’re the biggest thing in the Giants’ way as far as winning the division goes)? Even worse. But considering that San Francisco was just swept, at least it happened like this: the Giants lost these games because Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and Matt Cain surrendered 14 runs over 15.1 innings. And that’s not a trend that’ll continue. The good news is that the Giants’ offense, weak as it may be, managed to scor...

SF Giants Rumors: Zito The Stopper, Posey Gets The Day Off and Today’s Lineup!

Opening weekend has come and gone! Who would have thought that the San Francisco Giants would score 14 runs in three games, and still not have a win? Last year 14 runs in two weeks would have been good for them.   There is still 159 more games to go, so don’t stress about the start of the season. The pitching will come around and all these runs will turn into wins! Today’s Game...

Breaking: Barry Zito Pitches Shutout, Hell Freezes Over

We have confirmed reports right now that every level of hell is indeed freezing over.  This is of course pushing hellfolk refugees riding on the back of Cthuhlu to the surface world where they have been quoted as hoping to “bring a new age of darkness to Earth.”  All this took place after an event which many apocalypse theorists claim is the “harbringer of doom to the world...

Zito throws shutout, sets record

San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito pitched a shutout at Coors Field on Monday—his first since 2003—setting an MLB record for consecutive starts between shutouts.

Barry Zito’s Golden Goose Eggs

Barry Zito was terrible at pitching. He probably still will be bad at pitching. But today was marvelous. The Rockies are still asking when the game starts. 9 IP, 4 H, 0 BB…0 BB When the Giants starters gave up 14 ER in over 15 IP, it looked like Coors Field was the last place the Giants would want to be. It turned out to be how they got off the schnide…schneid…snide? Whatever...

Let's not freak out too much

The Giants were swept in the their opening series for the first time since moving to San Francisco, they start the season in the cellar and are already three games back of the defending division champs. Things probably couldn't have started worst while everyone stayed healthy. This series sucked but these kinds of things are going to happen over a long season many...

Projecting the Series: Giants vs Rockies

The Giants have gotten off to a bit of a poor start and turn to Barry Zito to attempt to right the ship and get the team the first win of the season. The big problem is that my projection model says that the odds of that happening are pretty poor but on the bright side it also said that the odds of the team scoring 16 runs in a four game series was also very low. ...

Zito's 4-hitter leads Giants by Rockies

Barry Zito threw a four-hitter for his first shutout in nine years and Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run homer to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Zito (1-0), who hasn't lost to Colorado since Sept. 25, 2008 -- a span of nine starts -- allowed three harmless singles and a double. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four in tossing...

Scotch and Water, Easy on the H2O

The Giants are 0-3 in one-run games. The Giants are 0-3 on the road. The Giants are 0-3. I think it’s about time to trade Monta Ellis for Ryan Madsen and Paul Janish. If we don’t finish in the bottom seven we lose our draft pick. I want that draft pick. Really like the way Kidd-Gilchrist played in that tournament. Matt Cain didn’t give up any first inning home runs. Which is...

Barry Zito Dominates in Giants 1st Win

Barry Zito threw a complete game shutout in his 2012 debut as the Giants get their first win of the young season. Zito sure did pitch like a $126 million pitcher today finally! It was also his first shutout and complete game as a Giant, and his first since 2003 VS Texas. No one expected Zito to be the first pitcher in the rotation to collect a win. He sure looked way more relaxed...

Barry Zito Shuts Down Rockies, Leads Giants to 7-0 Win

Barry Zito threw 53.2 innings last year; and he was terrible. From racking up strikeouts (5.4 K/9) to avoiding walks (4.0 BB/9) to keeping the ball in the park (1.7 HR/9), he did nothing well. The results, accordingly, were ugly: a 5.87 ERA, a 5.60 FIP, and a 4.65 xFIP. In a month, he’ll turn 34. And he looked awful this spring (16 hits allowed in his last 5.1 innings!). My expectations...

Barry Zito leads the San Francisco Giants to their first win and embarrasses the Colorado Rockies

Barry Zito shut out the Colorado Rockies this afternoon to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-0 win. This is not a joke and April Fool's Day was eight days ago.Giants' fans have ridiculed and laughed at Zito's bad starts for the past few years. They have seen him pitch horrible games and make so many bad wild pitches.Every season, Zito would say he would get better...

Giants-Rockies Preview

The San Francisco Giants are in danger of their worst start to a season in 62 years. Sending Barry Zito to the mound for the first time in 2012 may not help them avoid that dubious fate. Zito will try to put another disappointing season behind him and help the Giants avoid their first 0-4 start since 1950 when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. San Francisco (0-3...

Fashionably Late

Of course, this script was written before Sunday’s game, which was the exact opposite.  The first few innings were great, and it was all downhill from there. Heaven help the Giants when they’re looking to Barry Zito at Coors Field to be their saviors. A lot went wrong this weekend.  The specifics don’t matter.  The team needs to play better.  Bottom line, from Buster...

Bum-mer

The silver linings from yesterday are beginning to lose their luster. Two-run homers from Pablo Sandoval and Brett Pill once again brought the Giants painfully close to their first victory of the season, spoiled by the Dbacks hitting some of their own. Madison Bumgarner has been a hot pick as the breakout player of 2012, someone to take the next step into stardom. This always gets...
