Ike Davis extended his career-high in home runs when he belted 25th homer of the season last night – a two run blast that soared deep into the Miami night and put the Mets up 3-0. Davis now leads the National League with 18 home runs on the road. His 25 home runs are the sixth-most in team history among Mets first basemen and just one behind Mo Vaughn who is fifth on the list with 26 home runs in 2002. Davis has three home runs and six RBI in his last five games and is undoubtedly the hottest hitter on the team right now. His turnaround from a slow start can be attributed to a change he made in his batting stance on July 24, the Star-Ledger reported, when on that date, Davis stopped using his normal front-leg kick and began to crouch at the plate. This has enabled Davis to stay back on and see pitches longer, which has allowed him to drive both fastball and curveballs.
