The Los Angeles Angels deal Jeff Mathis to the Blue Jays

The Angels have traded 28-year old righty swinging catcher Jeff Mathis to the Toronto Blue Jays for 26-year old lefty starting pitcher Brad Mills. Mathis played in 93 games for the Angels last year and he was 43 of 247 (.174 avg, .484 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 3 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He played in 426 games in his 7 years with the Angels and he was 233 of 1,201 (.194 avg, .557 OPS) with 132 runs scored, 26 homers, 139 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Mathis became expendable after the Angels brought in Chris Iannetta in a deal with the Rockies earlier last week. Brad Mills pitched in 5 games (4 starts) for the Blue Jays last year and he was 1-2 with a 9.82 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP. He also pitched in 24 games (all starts) in AAA-ball last year and he was 11-9 with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Mills has now pitched in 14 games (9 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 2-3 with a 8.57 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. A change of scenery might be just what the doctor ordered...
