The Miami Marlins won their first game of the 2013 season on Friday with a 7-5 victory over the New York Mets.  It was Mike Redmond’s first win as a Major League manager as well and came on the 20th Anniversary of the Marlins’ first game in franchise history which was also a win.   Alex Sanabia continued a trend of great starts for Miami while the offense came alive after only scoring one run total in three games against the Washington Nationals. Sanabia worked six scoreless innings in which he allowed six hits while walking three.  The young starter got into trouble a few times but worked his way out of it to move to 1-0 on the season.   A week ago, Sanabia seemed destined to begin the year in AAA but now he holds the only victory on the Marlins’ pitching staff.   It wasn’t such a good night for the bullpen however which saw Chad Qualls allow three runs while only retiring one batter.   After that, A.J. Ramos worked out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth that he put himself into.  In the ninth, Steve Cishek who is usually reliable allowed two runs and faced the tying run despite entering with a four run lead.   The Marlins’ closer wound up securing the victory in a non-save situation. After struggling to collect extra base hits against the Nationals, the Marlins had five on friday including two doubles from catcher Rob Brantly.   Greg Dobbs who is filling in at first base hit his first home run of the year to get the scoring started in the second inning.  It was the first lead the Marlins have held this year and they maintained a lead for the entire game.   A five run seventh inning turned out to be important due to the bullpen issues in the game.  Justin Ruggiano and Giancarlo Stanton added doubles as well with Stanton’s coming in his final at-bat following three strikeouts in his earlier at-bats. The Marlins will try to make it two in a row on Saturday when Ricky Nolasco takes the mound.
