Cole Hamels five-hit the Braves as the Phils finally end their losing streak with Atlanta, winning 3-0.
The Phils took a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Dom Brown hits an RBI double, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the inning off with a double. Two batters later, with Brown still on second base, and now with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a two-run home run, his fifth home run of the season, knocking in Brown, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. That would turn out to be more than enough for Cole Hamels, as he threw a complete game shutout, the fifth of his career, allowing only five hits, all singles, to the Braves: a lead-off single to Chipper Jones in the second, who is, two batters latter, wiped out at second base for the inning’s second out, on a 4-6-3 doubleplay ball hit by Brian McCann; a two-out single in the fifth by McCann, who is thrown out at second base, 8-4, trying to stretch it into a double, by a strong throw by left fielder Brown as second baseman Chase Utley appl...

Cole Hamels decided the Phillies weren't going to lose tonight. (AP)
There was a baseball game in Philadelphia tonight, but it was in name only. For, you see, it was less a game than a one-man pitching showcase, headlined by Cole Hamels and his nine shutout innings. His performance willed the Phillies to a victory over the Braves, 3-0, in a game where the runs scored will become...
Cole Hamels was absolutely dominant last night on the mound, throwing his first complete game since September 2011 and his first shut out since September 2009 in his 100th career start at Citizens Bank Park. Today, Hamels spoke about why he re-signed with the Phillies.
Check out today's interview from MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM with Jim Memolo and Jeff Nelson. You...
It appears that Cole Hamels has found his groove again, and just in time to end a long Phillies losing streak against the division rival Braves. Prior to Tuesday night, the Braves had won 7 straight against the struggling Phils.
But once Hamels snapped out of his pitching slump, he made easy work out of Atlanta’s line-up. He pitched a 5-hit, complete game shut-out with 6 strike...
Cole Hamels threw a five-hit shutout at the Atlanta Braves in a 3-0 win Tuesday night.
It took him 111 pitches, two hours and 16 minutes to finish his first complete game since Game 3 of the 2010 National League division series.
He struck out six and walked none to improve to 12-6.
Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee combined have two wins at Citizen’s Bank Park. Halladay has both wins...
Cole Hamels came into tonight looking for his first big outing after signing that new extension a couple of weeks ago. The Philadelphia Phillies also came in looking for a big win as they set out to earn their 50th victory of the season against the Atlanta Braves.
Coming into tonight, the Phillies were 16.5 GB in the National League East as well as 12.5 GB for the second wild...
Last night was just another example of the 2012 Phillies. Poor play, no drive to play for win and the inability to hit with runners in scoring position. Vance Worley allowed four earned runs on six hits through 3 2/3 innings, but left early with what was later diagnosed by Charlie Manuel as "stomach issues". The Phils lost pretty heavily to their NL East rivals last night...
Pitching deep into almost every game, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best. What other premier starters are out west? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

Fantastic. Outstanding. Spectacular. Masterful. Anyway you want to say it, Cole Hamels was all of that and beyond tonight against Mike Minor and the Braves.
The three runs the Phillies scored tonight would be enough for Cole who shut out Atlanta in a complete game effort.
The runs would come in the first inning, and that would pretty much be it for offense in the game. First...
