Found July 26, 2013 on Burning River Baseball:
Regular readers to Burning River Baseball know that I have always been bearish on Carlos Santana. Whether it was missing a week of games last season due to getting hit in the catcher's mask by a line drive or lazy attempts to block balls in the dirt, I have always felt as if he has not lived up to his "top prospect" status. This may be relying too much on subjective observation rather than the actual numbers. Santana was the big prize of the 2008 trade that sent Casey Blake to the Dodgers. Santana has always hit well, particularly for a catcher, since coming up to the majors in 2010. While it was enough to cover for his aforementioned deficiencies behind the plate, in 2012 his drop in power was troubling. In 2013, the 27-year-old might be becoming the superstar that I envisioned when he was a prospect. For Santana, the numbers are certainly showing that; especially this season.   Despite having a poor May at the plate, Santana is currently on pace to have a caree...

Josh Tomlin Makes Season Debut In Rehab Outing

It’s been quite a while since we saw Josh Tomlin on the mound. On Friday night, however, the right-hander made his season debut following Tommy John surgery less than one year ago. Per his own Twitter account as well as Tony Lastoria of IBI, Tomlin pitched a scoreless inning in the Arizona Fall League. Nice to see @jtomlin43 out on the hill tonight for the first time in a rehab...

Cleveland Indians: Tom Hamilton is the best announcer in baseball

It is a known fact across the web that Tom Hamilton has the best home run call in the majors. The Voice of the Cleveland Indians is in his 23rd year of calling the Tribe games from the radio booth for WTAM 1100. In his 23 years, Hamilton has called 68 postseason games for the Tribe including all six games from the 1995 World Series and all seven games from the 1997 World Series...

AZL Indians rally late to beat AZL Reds 5-3 in extras

GOODYEAR – The AZL Indians opened the second half of the AZL season Friday night by snapping their three game losing streak, as they rallied past their complex rival AZL Reds 5-3 in 10 innings.  After coming back to tie the game in the late innings, the Tribe got a boost they desperately needed from LeVon Washington, who smacked a two-run blast in the top of the 10th inning...

Raburn lifts Indians over Rangers in 11-8 walk-off

CLEVELAND -- After twice contemplating a sacrifice bunt, Ryan Raburn hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the 11th inning off Jason Frasor, giving the Cleveland Indians a 11-8 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. After shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and catcher Carlos Santana opened the inning with back-to-back singles off Frasor (0-2, 3.26), Raburn squared to bunt on two pitches...

Sailing with the Clippers: 7/18/13 to 7/24/13

Pitching has been the name of the game for the Clippers as the second-half of their season has gotten off to a promising 4-3 start. They could easily be 7-0 as their losses came by three runs or less (two of them were by a one-run deficit). With a limited offense, the pitching staff is key and if they keep the runs down, Columbus has a shot of making a late-season push for the playoffs...

Minor League Baseball Team Holding Ridiculous ‘Sharknado Night’ Promotion

The Cleveland Indians’ Class-A affiliate, Lake Count Captains are jumping on the latest flop of a TV show and buzz-worthy on Twitter TV show’s bandwagon for a new promotion, and you can’t help but laugh. The team will be holding a Sharknado promotion on Aug. 15th and it will have everything if their ridiculous press release is any indication. (Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County...

Second Thoughts Game #102: Rangers 8, Indians 11

A Bench of Riches Since day one of the season, the Indians have been blessed with a luxury they have not enjoyed for quite some time. The bench assembled in the offseason by the Tribe front office is arguably the most improved element of the team and one of the top groups of utility players in the league, if not all of baseball. Players possessing the ability to play multiple positions...

Raburn's home run gives Indians extra-inning victory

CLEVELAND -- A downer turned into a triumph because a bunt turned into a swing. And that swing in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday night turned into a Ryan Raburn three-run home run that gave the Indians an 11-8 win over the Texas Rangers. This one ended gleeful. But it could have been glum as the Indians went to extra innings after squandering a 7-1 lead -- they hadnt blown a...

Indians 11, Rangers 8(11)

Ryan Raburn twice faked a bunt. There was nothing phony about his next swing. Raburn hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning off Jason Frasor, giving the Cleveland Indians a wild and sloppy 11-8 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. After Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana singled off Frasor (0-2), Raburn squared to bunt on two pitches and possibly drop a sacrifice before...

Indians ace Justin Masterson out-duels Rangers' Yu Darvish, 1-0

Catcher Carlos Santana said Justin Masterson's slider was perfect. Justin Masterson begged to differ. "He's too kind" said Masterson. "Carlos likes to use the word perfect a little too often." After Masterson out-dueled Yu Darvish on Saturday night in the Indians' 1-0 victory over Texas at Progressive Field Masterson was the only one objecting to...
