White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen has the rough duty of delicately balancing a transition period for Chicago. The Sox are currently four games under .500 and seven games back of the Detroit Tigers in the AL East. With the waiver deadline trades of Jim Thome and Jose Contreras, it appears to be the time to start moving towards next year.
For Chicago, preparing for next year means two things: staying healthy and playing the young guys. Guillen doesn’t deserve any criticism, because he has had to deal with players having down years, trades, and injuries. Overall, the team is moving in a very positive direction and Ozzie Guillen will be there to captain the ship.
In terms of staying healthy, it’s very important that starting pitcher Jake Peavy doesn’t risk any further injuries or worsen the ones that he already has. Shutting him down for the year is probably the best thing. Peavy was initially recovering from a partially torn tendon in his leg, but was hit directly...
