Found April 01, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
With the Mets first game under a week away, fans and analysts write this season as a disappointment already without it even starting. Realistically  the 2012 New York Mets wont be playing in any games of relevance deep into the summer and to the early parts of the fall. Though that doesn’t mean the team wont be exciting at times with their injection of young talent. With guys like Matt Harvey and Zach Wheeler not quite ready to make their mark in the big leagues, other young players like Ruben Tejada and Lucas Duda will have their opportunity to show they can be quality major leaguers.  That also includes Ike Davis, who missed most of last season due to a ankle injury. He will be one who the Mets will rely on for some pop in the middle of their lineup this season. “Ike’s swung the bat well this spring and we all think he will be a big part of our team,” Manager Terry Collins said, and he’s not the only one who thinks that highly about Davis, several major league scouts have said th...

Bay Losing His Grip On Starting Job

Here is a followup to a post I wrote last week on Jason Bay AKA The 500 Pound Gorilla In The Corner Outfield. Mike Puma of the  NY Post writes this morning: A club official yesterday floated the possibility that if Bay is struggling six or seven weeks into the season, the Mets could explore other options, including a platoon in left. Bay is hitting .195 with no RBIs this spring...

Parnell Is First Choice To Spot Santana If Need Be

Andy Martino of the Daily News, said via Twitter that reliever Bobby Parnell is the first choice to provide a spot start for Johan Santana should the need arise. In another tweet he adds that if Parnell were to start a game, it would be only for a few innings and not an extended outing. Parnell, 27, actually started today’s game against the Braves and threw three scoreless...

Mets Nearing Five-Year Extension With Jon Niese

According to ESPN New York, the Mets and Jon Niese are on the verge of agreeing to a five-year deal with options for 2017 and 2018. The deal is believed to be very similar to the five-year, $28.5 million contract Derek Holland and the Rangers came to terms on last month. The two camps are still negotiating a price tag says Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal, but are not far...

Collins: Parnell Will Not Be Used As A Starter

Well that didn’t last long. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Terry Collins said Parnell would not be used to make spot starts this season, but instead would be used for multiple inning stints out of the bullpen. I have to point out a comment left earlier today on this thread by Original Mets Fan: I dont believe a lot of what Martino says. Nothing against the guy...

3 Up and 3 Down: Ready Or Not, Here It Comes…

With opening day less than a week away, it’s time to weigh in with a brand new edition of “3 Up & 3 Down”. Here’s what I’m looking forward to in 2012, the 50th anniversary season of New York Mets Baseball! 3 Up: The Return of Johan Santana:One word comes to mind when I think of Johan Santana; warrior. Who could forget Santana’s performance against the Marlins a...

When does the pen become a concern

Photo by Michael BaronAfter a season in which too many winnable games were lost to blown saves and/or failed holds, the one area the front office addressed was the bullpen.Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez were suppose to be the strong part of the roster.  If Parnell, Acosta and Byrdak could be decent the pen on paper looks deeper then it has been in years. But as one...

A Mets fan’s note to his future self

Dear Me: Hey, what’s up *******? How’s the season going so far? It’s me. Or you. Depending on how you want to look at it. Whatever the case, I’m coming to you from the past. Why? Because I care about you, me us, and our sanity. And because I know you’re an idiot — at least when it comes to this team. Most importantly, I’m here to remind you of what a rational, level...

2012 Mets Rotation Announced

The Mets announced today that the starting rotation will be Santana, Dickey, Niese, Pelfrey and Gee. It’s common knowledge that the only time the rotation really matters in a sense of ace on ace matchups is April. Starting in May the matchups will start to get mixed up. There is also the looming idea on the horizon of adding a sixth man into the rotation as a way to decrease the...

Ike Davis Featured In Fantasy Baseball Parody Video

Here’s a pretty cool Fantasy Baseball song parody by NOC, “Should I Pujols or Cano?”, starring the Yankees’ Robinson Cano and the Mets’ Ike Davis. It is set to “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” by The Clash, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Enjoy…

Three Things Mets Fans Should Keep Their Eye On This Season

The Mets have a lot more on the line this season than just wins and losses. With the Madoff lawsuit behind them, the Wilpons can once again turn their focus to the future. Many questions regarding the future will be answered this season, through one means or another. Fans should keep an eye on the following, because each will play a significant part in the future of the franchise...
