To start this day in Philadelphia Phillies history, we'll have to go back to 1966 when Curt Schilling was born. Curt Schilling pitched for the Phillies for eight years from 1992 to 2000. And during this time, Schilling helped lead Philadelphia to the 1993 World Series, along with three All-Star game appearances.

Schilling ranks highly in several Phillies' all-time pitching records including SO/9, WAR, strikeouts, and wins. In 2013, Schilling was inducted into Philadelphia's Wall of Fame.

For the next piece of Phillies history, we have to fast forward to 2001, when Larry Bowa was named Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers Association. The 2001 campaign was Bowa's first year as manager after Philadelphia parted ways with Terry Francona.

In 2001, the Phillies finished 86-76 which put them two games behind the Atlanta Braves. This would be Philadelphia's first winning season in four years, as well as the first time the Phillies won over 80 games since the 1993 season.

Bowa was the first and is the only Philadelphia manager to be named Manager of the Year. Bowa would go on to manage the Phillies for another three years before getting sacked at the end of the 2004 season with two games left to play.
