PLAYERS: Ike DavisJose Reyes
TEAMS: New York Mets
OK, let’s get the whining out of the way first: I want to unreservedly love the new pinstripes, but they annoy me a little. The Mets were born in the Jet Age. Fatherly Eisenhower had given way to hip, stylish JFK, soon to announce we were going to the Moon. The Mets set up shop in the Polo Grounds, squashed into a grid of urban streets and thick with the ghosts of Giants past, but that was a temporary arrangement. We’d change our mind about how much we liked some of that new world, but that’s not the point. The point is that the uniforms should be white. The Mets’ blue and orange caps were nods to the departed Dodgers and Giants, but beyond that, the team wasn’t a sepia-...

Loss Of Reyes Does Not Impact The Mets' Rebuild

If the reports that the Miami Marlins have extended a 6 year, $90 million dollar contract offer to Jose Reyes are true, I think it is time for Mets fans to make their peace with the fact that Reyes will not be returning next season.  While the loss of the organization's most popular player certainly deals a blow to the hopes of any Met fan hoping their team could remain in contention...

Are The Marlins For Real?

The news this week that the Miami Marlins had offered Jose Reyes a six year deal worth roughly $90 million sent many Mets fans, myself included, into a panic. However, having had a few days to digest the news has allowed me to take on a bit of a different perspective. That new perspective was aided by the news that the Marlins have since offered a nine year deal worth $225 million...

Here are other key updates about Jose over the last few days: The Mets believe they will get an offer to counter any offer to Reyes, writes Joel Sherman of the New York Post. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Marlins have offered...

MMO Fan Shot: Smart Spending, Saving Money and Long Term Planning

It is said over and over again that the problem with the Mets is a combination of financial difficulties coupled with unwise spending and negligence in development of youth needed to build a winning franchise. There is some truth in all of this the only question seems to be in the perception of how bad and how much applies to each argument. In the case of Bad contracts the usual...
