New York Yankees
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Considering the New York Yankees began Friday's game with 2,023 more career homers in their lineup than the Oakland A's had in theirs, the night's result should have been no surprise. The Yankees hit three homers, including a pair of two-run blasts, on their way to a 6-3 victory. The A's hit two homers, but both were solo shots. New York's starting nine entered the night with 2,294 career homers, including Alex Rodriguez's 636 and Mark Teixeira's 319. Both players had more than the 271 of the entire A's lineup. Teixeira made it 320 with a third-inning, two-run homer that put the Yankees up 3-0, and New York never looked back. In the fifth, Robinson Cano hit a solo shot and Nick Swisher added a two-run homer to increase the lead to 6-1. For a Yankees team that had been inconsistent offensively, it was quite a relief to put up a second consecutive robust performance. New York beat Kansas City 8-3 Wednesday in its previous game. ...

You had every reason to dismiss Alex Rodriguez's postgame chest-thumping session on Tuesday night, where, after another brutally unproductive game, he promised he was ready to "go off" and start hitting home runs again.
First reaction? Who was kidding whom? A-Rod hadn't gone deep in 52 at-bats, and with only five home runs on the season, the slugger was turning...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - As much as former Royal George Brett didn't like the New York Yankees when he was playing, he doesn't seem to mind that Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is about to pass him on the all-time hits list.
At 3,152 career hits, Jeter is just two hits shy of tying Brett for 15th place all time.
"If it's going to be someone and if it's going to be...
Ivan Nova continued to be victimized by the long ball Friday night, but he made the pitches when he needed to, helping the New York Yankees beat the Oakland A's, 6-3, at the O.co Coliseum. Nova gave up three runs over seven strong innings, two of them on solo homers by Josh Reddick and Kila Ka'aihue. Nova has now allowed 12 home runs in nine starts, the most on the staff...
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Teixeira hit two homers and drove in five runs to pace the Yankees in another big offensive day as they beat the A's 9-2 on Saturday. Teixeira, who also homered on Friday, had four hits. Robinson Cano also homered for the second consecutive day and had three hits. The Yankees have now scored 23 runs on 32 hits, including nine homers, in the past...
A report emerged Thursday that the Yankees were pondering a decision to sell the team. The team's managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner and Major League Baseball, however, refuted that speculation just hours after it broke. According to Forbes, the Yankees have an estimated worth of $1.85 billion. But if the team's ownership was to sell the franchise, here are the top...
The Oakland Athletics have optioned right-handed pitcher Graham Godfrey to Class AAA Sacramento and recalled right-hander Andrew Carignan. This will be Carignan's third stint with the A's this season. He is 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in seven major-league games. He was 2-0 with 2.70 ERA in nine games during two stops with Sacramento. Godfrey has had two visits with the A'...
Somewhere, there are sighs, screams, and sounds of heads smacking fine mahogany tables as Bill Madden and Michael O’Keeffe of the NY Daily News wafted out a story that the New York Yankees might be up for sale. Madden, who has many times been right on a story, but just as often not (remember, he said that contraction of the A’s and Rays was on the cusp...
Former St. John's and NBA star Mark Jackson was spotted in the stands at Saturday's New York Yankees-Oakland A's matchup at The Coliseum in Oakland.
The Golden State Warriors head coach was working the phone while watching CC Sabathia grind it out against the home team. The namesake behind "The Mark Jackson Rule" is now a Bay Area resident but the Brooklyn...
Brandon Inge looks like he's ready to return the majors. Playing for Class AAA Sacramento on a rehabilitation assignment, the Oakland Athletics third baseman went 5-for-5 with seven RBIs on Saturday night. "It's just missing time," Inge told the Sacramento Bee. "I don't like missing time. I can't wait to get back in there." Inge was scheduled...
The Rangers have been eliminated after their 3-2 loss to the Devils in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Blueshirts have nothing to be ashamed about. They played hard every night and put their bodies on the line. They gave the fans a great run and outstanding sports memories they will cherish forever. Despite the fact the Yankees and Randy Levine tell...
Steinbrenner says the Yankees aren’t for sale. A few billion would be tough to turn down though, so do you believe him?
I still remember the first time I missed out on my first billion. In fact, it was just a couple days ago when no one took me up on my brilliant idea to go mine asteroids. Seriously people, where are your...
The New York Yankees have agreed to a Minor League deal with right handed pitcher John Maine according to Evan Drellich of MLB.com (via Jon Heyman of CBSSports).
Maine was released by the Red Sox earlier this month. The 31-year old hurler last pitched in the Majors in 2010 with the Mets. His career record is 41-36 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.2 HR/9, 4.1 BB/9 and 7.6 SO/9 in 585.2 innings...
