You know I’m tempted to blast away, but I’m not going to.. I think everyone knows the real deal now. However, I did state all spring Ohlendorf didn’t look to be taking his job very seriously and, what do you know, here he is out with a back problem. Who would have thought? I’d guess this is just the beginning, but what do I know? Well, no matter, he was very likely going to get lit up anyway.
Now we end up having to put Brian Burres on the mound. What a catastrophe. I hope the guy does well but I’m so pissed off as a fan I won’t even bother to tune in and watch the pain on the other players faces that I expect to see. John Russell should probably order his troops to wear protective gear when they take the field so they can at least stay safe.
What bothers me the most about all this is that we could have dealt a couple of our starting pitchers this winter for some booty and every single regular season day that passes only lowers our return on these guys. It doesn’t make a bit of sense to me how our front office could have been split on whether they had enough pitching to make a run or not. That doesn’t compute with me even using Dave Littlefield’s old Tandy ‘Tike’ computer.
So here we are burning up Andrew McCutchen’s clock. For this? He could be sitting in Indy with Tabata and Moss and Alvarez and.. at least they would be playing some meaningful baseball. Heck, let Raynor take over center for the next few months and shut down Cutch’s clock.
No, it’s not going to happen – and probably shouldn’t. Once you start a lead ball rolling downhill it’s not easy to stop. But come on.. how do you break camp with three starters and two possibles who all have pages and pages of red flags?
Well, all we can do as fans is hope Ohlendorf feels better soon, that Neal Huntington and his ace pilots find some talent somewhere around the game to eat some innings for us (did someone mention in February Carrasco should have been stretched out??), and this ship gets floating on course again. I’m sure it will.
Someday.
This is a first for me – not tuning in to a game I’m available for so I’m counting on you to tell me how it went. Don’t expect any mercy from Zito and the Giants – you’re not going to see any.

So Hayden Penn was DFA’d, huh? Gee, I bet that took our front office hours to deliberate over considering they actually thought he had MLB stuff to begin with. Goodness gracious.. Joe Kerrigan must be livid with himself that he actually came back to this mess. And Hanrahan and his tweaked elbow are back for some more abuse? Good stuff there – can’t wait to see John Russell send him out for a few high leverage innings to see if the elbow actually pops.

Hey, where’s my buddy Tom Gorzelanny these days and how the heck is he doing?
Oh my.

Maybe we can trade for this 2A starter? I bet he’d be cheap! Poor guy.. 2A buses again. Wow. At least he has a gig, huh Ian?

DJ Gallo with a great piece on Rudy ‘Nobody cares about me’ Owens in his start against Strasburg Sunday. I tip my hat to Gallo.. well done article. And here is the Washington Post talking about the same player Report Cards we’re about to get hooked up with at Bucs Prospects.

Forbes had ‘no comment’ to my questions on how the Pirates could possibly be saddled with $100MM in debt.

Ok, I might peak at the first inning. But only one!
