Three Up, Three Down: The Dodgers are a complete juggernaut right now

Welcome to this week's edition of Three Up, Three Down — your weekly catch-up of the three best highlights (and lowlights) from around the league. We're here for all of the cheers and the jeers, because it's baseball. You can't have a winner without someone losing along the way.

Up: The Dodgers are a complete juggernaut right now

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies would be leading three other divisions in baseball and if they were in the NL East, they'd be within striking distance of the Nationals. However, they're in the NL West, and as of Thursday afternoon they were a whopping 11 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are tearing their competition to shreds at the moment.

The Dodgers are not only leaving their divisional competition in the dust, but they're starting to leave the rest of baseball in the dust as well. Going into their game on Thursday night, they had won 11 straight games and were on a 31-4 tear. They haven't been this hot since they were in Brooklyn and known as the Superbas. You know things are going well when you're doing stuff that hasn't been done since the 1800s, and we may as well get ready to see what this team can do in October because they're absolutely heading for the playoffs.

Down: Giancarlo Stanton is fed up with the losing

We've reached the point in the season where the more competitive players on teams who are having bad seasons are starting to get frustrated with how things are going. That's the case in Miami, where the Marlins are currently in the midst of yet another bad season, and the team's most high-profile player is starting to have enough of it.

The Marlins recently dropped a series against the Phillies, who are currently baseball's worst team. They lost the final game of the series 10-3, which prompted Giancarlo Stanton to say that "there's not much going" for the Marlins right now. He's right, but it's not like he'll be moving teams since the Marlins aren't going to trade him and they're willing to keep on paying him the rest of his lavish contract that he's owed. Not much is going for the Marlins, and it doesn't seem like much will change until ownership changes either.

Up: Commentator gets a sick burn in on Chris Christie

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie reacts after a ball went into the stands near him in the third inning of game between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets at Citi Field on July 18, 2017.  Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is a noted sports fan, so it's not a shock to see that he was at Citi Field to catch a baseball game. However, it's still possible to go to a game and fly under the radar. That wasn't the case on Tuesday, because fate decided to send a foul ball his way. He caught it and the cameras stayed on him for a little bit.

While this was happening, the fans at Citi Field decided to let them know how much they appreciated him. Unfortunately for the Governor, the fans didn't appreciate him too much because they showered him with boos. It probably got worse for Christie when he got home and watched the replay on SNY, because the announcers burned him with a joke related to his recent exploits on the beach. Yikes!

Down: What's happened to the Cardinals?

The Cubs have surged their way back into the NL Central race, and the Pirates are starting to heat up as well. When you combine that with the Brewers still scratching and clawing to their status as a first place team, it's interesting to note that one team who's currently absent from this drama is the St. Louis Cardinals. They're currently a few games under .500 and don't really show signs of getting back up.

The biggest sign of this is how they lost their game against the Mets on Thursday. In the bottom of the ninth of a 2-2 tie in New York, Jose Reyes hit a grounder to first base which Matt Carpenter rolled up with no problem. Unfortunately, he had nobody to throw it to at first base since Trevor Rosenthal failed to cover first base. Jose Reyes slid into first, the runner on third scored, and the Cardinals lost a game due to a defensive botch. We hear a lot about The Cardinal Way, but that's the exact opposite of what you come to expect from a team like the Cardinals. However, it explains why they're under .500.

Up: The Panda is back in black (and orange)!

The Giants are going absolutely nowhere fast in what's been a very disappointing season for the usual NL West contenders. However, they're in a position where they can make moves that aren't necessarily "Win Now" moves or strategic moves to help give them a leg up. Sometimes you do something just for sentimental value, which has to be why they decided to bring Pablo Sandoval back into the fold.

Let's just say it: Pablo Sandoval was a huge free agent bust in Boston, and the Red Sox needed to cut bait with him at one point or another. That point came not too long ago, and with Sandoval back on the free agent market, the Giants decided that now would be the time to bring the Panda back home. This won't boost the Giants and the Red Sox definitely won't miss him, but it'll be nice seeing Sandoval back in the black-and-orange if only for the memories of the good ol' days for both parties.

Down: J.D. Martinez joins Arizona and gets hurt immediately

Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder J.D. Martinez is examined after being hit in the hand by a pitch before being called for a strikeout and leaving the playing field in the top of the fourth inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July 19, 2017.  Sam Greene/Cincinnati Enquirer via USA TODAY NETWORK

The Diamondbacks made a big move when they accepted the Tigers' generous offer of J.D. Martinez for a few of Arizona's low-level prospects. Arizona may be falling further and further behind the juggernaut that's wearing blue-and-white in Los Angeles, but this was a solid move to help shore up their lineup and make them even more formidable in a potential Wild Card race.

Unfortunately, Martinez's first game as a Diamondback didn't go well at all. In fact, he didn't even last the full game! Martinez's Diamondback debut was cut short when he got hit on the hand with a pitch. The good news is that it was "just" a contusion and he's listed as day-to-day, but it's still a bad omen when your big mid-season acquisition gets hurt before he can even get through nine innings with his new team.
