Reliever J.P. Howell has agreed to a $1.35 million, one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, avoiding arbitration.
The left-hander went 2-3 with a 6.16 ERA in 46 appearances last season, when he returned from left shoulder surgery that sidelined him all of the previous year.
The 28-year-old earned $1.1 million in 2011.
The deal reached Monday leaves the Rays with four players...

Two key Tampa Bay Rays players received a nice pay raise yesterday. SP David Price and CF B.J. Upton both received hefty pay increases while avoiding arbitration with the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa also reached a new deal with newly acquired RP Burke Badenhop. On Monday, the Rays reached a new one-year deal with RP J.P. Howell worth $1.35 million dollars.

The Rays and JP Howell have agreed to a 1-year, $1.35 million contract, avoiding arbitration (per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times). Howell was projected to make $1.4 million through arbitration, so the Rays may have saved a couple of dollars by avoiding the arbitration process.
The Rays still have four players that are eligible for arbitration, including David Price, BJ Upton...
