Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera exited Monday's spring game against Philadelphia after taking a sharp grounder to his face. Cabrera was bloodied when a ball hit by Hunter Pence took a hop off the ground and made contact near his right eye. He was taken to the hospital to get stitches and have precautionary X-rays. Manager Jim Leyland said he did not have any information about the status of the six-time All-Star. Cabrera is attempting amove back to third base to accommodate the arrival of first baseman Prince Fielder. “You’re going to pick up the paper tomorrow and read that Cabrera can’t play third base,” former manager Terry Francona said during ESPN’s broadcast. “But that ball hits every third baseman in the majors in the face.” Cabrera batted .344 with 30 homers and 105 RBIs last season.
