Justin Verlander pitched eight solid innings for his first win in a month and the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Thursday in front of another receptive crowd at Wrigley Field. Verlander also helped himself with a pair of sacrifices as Detroit capped an encouraging 4-2 interleague road trip to Cincinnati and Chicago. Austin Jackson hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh and a two-run homer in the ninth. The combination of Verlander and a picturesque day in Chicago led to a season-high crowd of 42,292 that ran the total for the series to 124,782, setting a Wrigley Field record for a midweek three-game set. Tigers fans made up a good amount of that total, and they cheered everything Verlander did in the finale. The Cubs scored two runs in the second on Darwin Barney's double and Luis Valbuena's groundout, but that was it against the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner. Verlander, who also won the MVP award for his dominant 2011 season, retired 10 in a row an...

The Tigers continued to show why they love playing in Wrigley Field Thursday afternoon as they beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 winning the three game series two games to one. Valverde blows it for Tigers in 10th

DETROIT -- While some were watching a successful high-wire act across Niagara Falls, Tigers fans watched a less successful -- and longer -- high-wire act by the team's closer. It all looked so promising for the Tigers, coming off a 4-2 road trip, with a 4-4 tie heading into the bottom of the ninth with Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Delmon Young coming up. But the Tigers...

Tigers’ starter Drew Smyly diagnosed with Ebola

On Sunday Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Drew Smyly left his start early against the Cincinnati Reds due to injury. The injury for which he left the game was believed to be a blood blister that had ruptured; however, that’s not the case. Not even close. Jackson hits another late HR; Tigers beat Cubs

If Austin Jackson keeps this up, he'll be headed to Kansas City for the All-Star Game next month. Jackson has been showing his team what they have been missing when he was out from May 17 to June 9 with an abdominal strain. After his successful two-game rehabilitation start in Toledo last Thursday and Friday, Jackson said of the Tigers, "I'm ready to rejoin them and...

Actor Jeff Garlin Yells “Tigers Fans Suck” (Video)

Tigers fans stole his joy It’s a long-time tradition to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. At no ballpark is this tradition upheld with more pride than at Wrigley Field in Chicago. With the Detroit Tigers in town to face the Chicago Cubs, Tigers fans seemed to take over Wrigley field. Not only did they take over, but they drowned out the Cubs...

Tiger’s Crowded Outfield Situation- Seeing past the hype

With the big hype lately over the one and only, Quintin Berry, there have been many discussions as to what would be the most logical desired outfield, personnel wise, assuming everyone is healthy. As disappointing as the play has been from the corner outfielders in Brennan Boesch and Delmon Young, many are quick to think Berry should replace one of them in the starting lineup. With...

Bullpen imploads in embarrassing fashion, Tigers lose 12-4 in 10 innings

A hard-fought game turned to sheer embarrassment for Jose Valverde and the Tigers as they fell to the Colorado Rockies 12-4 in 10 innings from Comerica Park. Coming into the game on an 8 game losing streak, the Rockies took advantage of a Valverde throwing error in the 10th to score 8 runs in the en route to victory. It wasn’t all on Valverde though in the 10th. After leaving...

The Tigers Need…

While pretty much everyone knows that you “can’t predict baseball,” if there was one feeling shared by the majority of analysts before the season started, it was that the Detroit Tigers were going to easily win the American League Central, perhaps with some token resistance from Cleveland. That is not how things have gone, as presently the Tigers not only find themselves trailing...

Game 63 Threa...Dear God, 100 More Games of This Sh**?!?!?!

The Cubs go for the series win behind Travis Wood. The Tigers counter with Justin Verlander. Over/under on Verlander K's at 11. Over/under on hits for the Cubs is 2. Take the over on the K's and under on the hits. Hell, perfect game #23 doesn't sound too unreasonable. Tigers Cubs Jackson, CF *Campana, CF *Boesch, RF Castro, SS Cabrera, 3B *DeJesus, RF *Fielder...
