Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder’s Home Runs Help Detroit Tigers Avoid Sweep in Boston

Runs have been hard to come by for the Detroit Tigers on this road trip, but tonight, a hailstorm of home runs helped the team get out of town without being swept. Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Delmon Young clubbed … Continue reading →

Pressure's on the bottom half of the Detroit lineup

Why would anyone pitch to Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder when they can face Delmon Young? The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox appear to be in front of the line of teams that would prefer to let Young, or Brennan Boesch or Jhonny Peralta, beat them instead of the two Detroit Tigers sluggers who form the most potent No. 3-4 lineup combo in baseball. Twice in the last three...

Aaron Cook Blames 'Three Bad Pitches' For Loss, Laments Missing Spots Against Good Hitters (Video)

Aaron Cook got off to a good start in Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Tigers. Unfortunately, he allowed a five-run fifth inning that overshadowed the strong start out of the gate. After making quick work of the Tigers in the first three innings, Cook allowed one run in the fourth and back-to-back home runs by Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder in the big fifth inning...

DETROIT (AP) -- Prince Fielder homered and drove in four runs, helping Anibal Sanchez win for the first time with the Tigers in Detroit's 10-2 rout of the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. Fielder also hit a two-run double. Sanchez (1-1) allowed one earned run in six-plus innings. The right-hander was acquired in a July 23 trade with the Miami Marlins. The Indians, who designated...

Phillies OF Larry Greene Fits No Profile

Whether fair or not, being a first round pick carries lofty expectations. In the case of Phillies prospect Larry Greene, my assumption was that the young outfielder would be the best player on the field when seeing him play about a month ago. To my surprise, he wound up being the third best prospect on his own team behind shortstop Roman Quinn and third baseman Mitch Walding whom...

Brewers have decision to make at first base

MILWAUKEE Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has spent plenty of time this season praising the defensive work of right fielder-turned-first baseman Corey Hart, as a slew of injuriesat the corner infield spot forced the outfielder to learn a new position. And on Monday night, Roenicke watched Hart deliver perhaps his most important defensive play of the year, snow-coning a long throw...

Tigers' power display burns out Red Sox

BOSTON – Baseball's scariest 1-2 punch delivered in the fifth inning at Fenway Park on Wednesday night, allowing the Detroit Tigers to end a shaky road trip with a win. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder hit back-to-back Aaron Cook curveballs for home runs to produce the last three runs of a five-run inning that powered the Detroit Tigers to a 7-5 victory over Boston. The...

Box Score: Tigers 10, Indians 2

Seven. The losing streak that has sent the Indians from above-.500 and in the hunt after taking two of three from these Tigers last time has now reached seven games. Justin Masterson got steamrolled again by a potent Detroit offense, as Prince Fielder put the game out of reach with two mighty swings, a two-run double in the third and a two-run homer in the fourth. Ezequiel Carrera...

Trout named AL Player of the Month

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Mike Trout has been voted the Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month for July, the first such honor of his career and the first for the Angels since Kendrys Morales in August 2009. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor of 23 of 30 clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the National League...

The Cleveland Indians need a monster hitter!

They need a Miguel Cabrera, a Prince Fielder or a Jose Bautista. It has been years since they had Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, and Travis Hafner in their primes. They need a hitter that can carry the team at times. The closest hitters that have are Shin- Soo Choo, Jason Kipnis, Carlos Santana, and Asdrubal Cabrera. But, they are not monsters. Draft one; trade for one;...

Game 2012.104: Tigers at Red Sox

Detroit Tigers, 54-49, 2nd place, 1.5 back. With the trade deadline past and the Tigers standing pat, perhaps it is time once more to look at the Detroit DH situation.  The Tigers still rank 13th of 14 teams in DH performance, which is exactly where they stood when we looked at this a couple of months ago.  Tiger DHs have combined for a .248 average and a measly .646 OPS, underwhelmed...
